Meet Singa B

We recently connected with Singa B and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Singa , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Discovering my purpose was a journey that unfolded organically. I didn’t set out with a specific plan to find it; instead, the blues found me.

From a young age, I was soulful melodies, and the raw emotions of music. I started playing the guitar and singing I uncounciously immersed myself in this genre, I realized that this type of music allowed me to express myself in a way that nothing else could. It was as if the blues had chosen me as a vessel to communicate the stories, emotions, and struggles that are an inherent part of the human experience.

Over time, I see the impact my music has on people. It’s not just about performing; it’s about touching hearts, connecting with others, and helping them find solace or inspiration through the music. When the blues chose me, I understood that my purpose was intertwined with it, with the power of music to heal, inspire, and to bring people together.

So, in essence, my purpose found me through my deep and profound relationship with the blues. It’s a journey that continues to evolve, and I’m grateful to be able to share this musical journey with others.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’d be delighted to share more about my journey and what I’m currently focused on professionally.

My name is Singa B, and my musical journey began at a very young age. Growing up in Memphis, Tennessee, where the rich history of music surrounds you, I was immersed in a musical environment from the start. At the age of five, I started my musical exploration by teaching myself how to play “Greensleeves” on a Casio piano. My determination to pursue music was evident to my mother, who then enrolled me in violin lessons. It was during this time that I began to develop my passion for creating and playing music.

My journey took a pivotal turn when I ventured into teaching myself how to play the guitar, a decision that would shape my musical path significantly. By the age of thirteen, while I was still in middle school, I wrote and published my first copyrighted song, which became the alma mater for my school. This early success fueled my ambition.

In high school, I embarked on an ambitious project—I wrote, arranged, and produced my first solo album, “Late Night Jam Sessions.” During my high school years, I had the incredible opportunity to tour internationally, taking my music to Australia with my band, the STAX Academy SNAP.

Upon graduating from high school, I was accepted into Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where I continued to hone my musical skills and knowledge. Though I did not complete my formal education, my musical journey expanded even further.

To date, I have recorded, produced, and released over twenty studio albums, along with two live albums and a documentary. I wear multiple hats in the music industry, serving as the CEO of my own record label, TRE Productions. I am also the COO of my nonprofit organization, “Gardens Art Life,” which focuses on using art as a means of positive change. In addition, I’ve ventured into the world of media with the creation of my media group and even launched an urban clothing line.

Back when Voyage Magazine & I first met in 2018/2019 I was producing & collaborating with the co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, Dame Dash. We worked on producing a new albums and content under under the BluRocRecords & TRE Productions Label.

After collaborating with Dame Dash, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic led to the closure of production studios in Hollywood. In response, I made the decision to return to the South to further explore the music industry, and Atlanta became my new musical home. It was there that I had the privilege of connecting with talented artists like country singer Blanco Brown, leading to collaborations and songwriting for Billboard charting artists. In 2023, I embarked on a remarkable journey, recording a collaborative album titled “Rap Blues Mane” with the Oscar-nominated Al Kapone. It was during this time that I stumbled upon Nashville’s last juke joint, Ms. Zeke’s Juke Joint, nestled inside Poppa T’s Barbecue restaurant. After a series of cover song performances, the owner asked if I had any original blues songs. That very night, I began crafting a blues track, and since then, the blues community has embraced me. My fresh, youthful approach has injected new life into the genre, which I’ve coined as “Brand New Blues.” Currently, I’m in the final stages of producing an album recorded at Ocean Way Studios that encapsulates this innovative sound, ushering in a new era for blues music.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The music industry can be challenging and demanding. The ability to persevere through setbacks, rejection, and obstacles has been crucial. My advice to those starting their journey is to cultivate resilience. Keep pushing forward, stay committed to your passion, and view every setback as an opportunity to learn and grow.

Music is a constantly evolving field, and being adaptable to changing trends and technologies is extremely important. Developing a diverse set of skills, from songwriting and performance to production and business, has allowed me to navigate the industry effectively. To those early in their journey, I recommend embracing versatility and continuously expanding your skills. Stay open to new techniques and technologies, because they open unexpected doors.

Building relationships within the industry has been instrumental in my growth. Collaborating with fellow artists, producers, and professionals has not only enriched my work but also opened doors to new opportunities. My advice to newcomers is to prioritize networking and collaboration. Attend events that are centered in your industry, connect with ya peers, and be open to collaborations. You never know what connections that you’ll find support in, inspiration for, and new avenues for success.

Over all resilience, versatility, and networking have been pivotal in my journey. Embrace the challenges, adapt to change, and cultivate meaningful relationships.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Throughout my journey, the two most influential and unwavering sources of support have undoubtedly been God and my mother. Their roles in helping me overcome challenges and develop essential skills, qualities, and knowledge have been immeasurable.

God has been my anchor, providing me with the strength and guidance to persevere through the highs and lows of this unpredictable industry. In moments of doubt or uncertainty, my faith has kept me grounded and motivated to pursue my passion for music and my purpose in this life. I know that my talents are a gift to me with great power. And with great power comes responsibility. Through prayer and trust in a divine plan, I’ve found solace and determination to keep moving forward, even when faced with seemingly life threatening obstacles.

My mother, on the other hand, has been my rock and my greatest advocate. From the very beginning, she recognized my passion for music and encouraged me to pursue it with unwavering support. Her sacrifices and belief in my talent allowed me to access valuable resources and opportunities that I might not have otherwise had. She instilled in me the importance of hard work, faith, discipline, and resilience, qualities that have proven essential in my journey.

Through countless ups and downs, it has been the combination of divine guidance and my mother’s unwavering belief in me and in the father that has propelled me forward. Their love and support have been instrumental in my ability to bounce back from setbacks, learn from failures, and continue to develop the skills and knowledge needed for success. I am profoundly grateful for their presence in my life, as they are the pillars upon which my journey has been built, and they continue to inspire me every day.
