We were lucky to catch up with Sinjin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sinjin, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
To overcome creative blocks, I turn to sources of visual inspiration like Pinterest, where I explore everything from paintings and nature to fashion and color patterns. Immersing myself in different forms of art helps spark new ideas and perspectives. I also follow a variety of creative artists whose work constantly motivates me. Seeing their talent and growth pushes me to challenge myself and keep evolving. As an artist, I believe the learning process never stops, and surrounding myself with creativity helps me stay inspired and keep moving forward.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My journey into the world of makeup began at a time when I was struggling with confidence due to acne. After trying countless skincare products with no success, my sister introduced me to a CoverGirl pressed powder—something simple, but it completely changed how I saw myself. From that moment, I fell in love with makeup and began experimenting, exploring different styles, and pushing my creativity. What started as a personal confidence boost turned into a deep passion and eventually a career. I discovered a talent for bold, editorial looks that allowed me to express myself and empower others. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone’s confidence shine after I’ve done their makeup. That feeling fuels everything I do, and I’m excited to keep growing, creating, and sharing that sense of transformation through my work.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are a commitment to continuous learning, the ability to connect with and learn from others, and a deep understanding of skin and product knowledge. In the beauty industry, things are constantly evolving—trends shift, products change, and techniques improve—so it’s essential to stay curious and open to growth. I’ve attended makeup classes, asked questions, and had meaningful conversations with fellow artists, all of which have taught me so much—not just about makeup application, but also about the business side of things. My advice to anyone starting out is to never stop learning and to soak up as much knowledge as you can. Understanding different skin types and what products work best for each person is key, and the more you know, the more confident and versatile you’ll become as an artist.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
One book that has played a significant role in my personal and creative development is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It’s a story I can read over and over again because it’s filled with timeless wisdom. One of the most powerful lessons it teaches is that everything meant for you will come—but not without challenges, sacrifice, and growth. Life will test you along the way, and it’s up to you to recognize those moments as opportunities to learn and evolve. This message has stuck with me, especially in my journey as an artist. It reminds me to trust the process, stay focused on my passion, and keep pushing forward, even when the path isn’t easy.
