We were lucky to catch up with Sky Edwards recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sky , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
In a field in Germany during the summer of 2012, I found myself conversing with a traveling artist from Romania and he suggested that I could do makeup to fund my expenses while traveling. At the time I was living in Manchester, England and I spent summer breaks travelling festivals in Europe. When an opportunity arose to go to the island of Ibiza to establish a body painting company, I seized the opportunity.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Currently loving my life as a MUA currently in LA. ‘I rock up to events and bring the fun and all the sparkles of course, yeah I am a serious glitter addict’. The most exciting thing about what I do is having the opportunity to attend a wide variety of events all over the city and meet all the wonderful people and connect with them. I do anything and everything from kids parties, churches, store launches, nonprofit events, right up to exclusive VIP areas at festivals and even celebrity parties including Mr Adam Sandler himself. My art is ‘flowy’ and bespoke – I try to make sure everybody at the event gets something different to keep it fun and interesting for the audience. Music has a huge influence over my designs, and my color palette responds to match the tone of the event. I am currently collaborating with Hazel Beauty UK, a vegan skincare company based in London.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Don’t be afraid to try something new even if at first it may feel like nothing is happening. When I first started my Instagram page I was posting content and not getting any new customers but I hung in there and now I am getting to get a positive response and I feel its inspiring me to go to new levels. My three top qualities are openness, originality and outrageousness!
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I loved ‘The Power of Habit’ by Charles Duhigg as it gave me a unique perspective on how I can change and improve my daily habits, but my absolute favorite book is ‘The Artists Way’ by Julia Cameron, as it helped me get back in touch with my creativity during covid. It taught me freedom of expression and allowed me to grow as a person.
