Meet Skylee Edmiston

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Skylee Edmiston. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Skylee, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

Age definitely plays a role. As you get older, you start to realize that, no matter what life throws at you, you’re going to be just fine—it’s like an unshakable inner groove you develop over time.

And honestly, when you’ve faced a lot of challenges growing up, it builds this resilience that keeps you from sweating the small stuff as an adult. You’ve already danced through the tough beats, so you don’t lose your rhythm as easily.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

’ve been a licensed Esthetician and Educator for about 15 years, and during that time, I’ve built my career around passion and purpose. I own a nonprofit spa that provides specialized care for cancer patients, as well as a thriving beauty collective with 10 talented room renters.

Education is truly the heartbeat of what I do. I’m deeply committed to ensuring Estheticians in our industry uphold the highest standards—it’s all about elevating the craft and inspiring excellence.

As for my beauty collective, it’s constantly growing and evolving, and I’m beyond excited about a super-secret project we’re working on right now. Big things are coming—stay tuned!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I’d say perseverance is absolutely the most vital skill to cultivate early in your esthetics career. I see way too many students and new professionals throwing in the towel when things get tough. But if you just push through and stay committed, it almost always pays off in the long run.

One of the best things you can do is surround yourself with mentors and successful people in the industry. Their guidance and wisdom are invaluable.

Another point I feel isn’t emphasized enough is the power of in-person marketing and networking. So many young Estheticians think that building a brand is all about social media. But if there’s one lesson we’ve learned from the recent TikTok shakeup, it’s that you can’t rely solely on social media for your livelihood—it’s unpredictable. Real, face-to-face connections are where the magic happens.

And when it comes to the spa industry, selflessness is key. Too many people come into this field thinking it’s all about making money or becoming famous. But if you’re not genuinely passionate about serving others, if you don’t have the heart to treat people well, this industry is probably not the right fit for you. At the core, it’s about compassion and dedication to others.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

This might sound wild, but the best thing my father ever did for me was refusing to help when I needed it most.

At 20, I was a young mom trying to figure it all out. I bought a house with my son’s father—a decision that, looking back, wasn’t the smartest. When things didn’t work out between us, I was left with the house, the bills, and no one to lean on.

I remember calling my dad, desperate for help to pay my mortgage so we wouldn’t lose the house. He refused. At the time, I was devastated. I couldn’t understand how he could let my son and me face something so scary.

But now, I see the lesson he gave me. He taught me that I had to be the one to take control of my life and my son’s future. That moment lit a fire in me. I decided that day that I would never again put our future in someone else’s hands. I worked my butt off to create an amazing life for us, and that drive shaped who I am today.
