Meet Skyler Bergstrom

We recently connected with Skyler Bergstrom and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Skyler , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Growing up I was the furthest thing from confident. I always felt like I was going to be judged, I was the one who always hid in the corner of the room and stayed quiet. In 2017, I started going to the gym which forever changed that perspective. At first it was hard, but I kept showing up anyways. I realized that I was doing it for ME and not anybody else. After a rough first year of trial and error I finally found a routine that worked for me and became more comfortable and confident in my every day life. My confidence and self esteem came from constantly showing up for myself. It came from within and not from the people around me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Skyler Bergstrom and I am the owner of Define Fitness, LLC. Growing up I knew I always wanted a career that involved helping people but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do exactly. In 2017 I started my own fitness journey and realized how empowering it was as a woman to feel strong and confident. Fitness changed my life in so many ways that had nothing to do with how I looked physically. As a fitness coach, my main priority is to help all of my clients develop a healthy relationship with food, the gym, and themselves. To help them feel strong, confident, and determined. To show them that fitness doesn’t have to be scary, boring, or dreadful. To help them realize that it’s okay to take up space and that they do belong.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think the biggest quality would have to be losing fear of failure. I was always scared to start because I didn’t want to fail, in reality failure helps make you better and you won’t know if you don’t try. Another quality would have to be determination. Even when it gets hard, you have to stay committed and keep trying, that goes for starting a business and starting your fitness journey. Lastly, being open minded. I think when you remain open minded it helps the previous two qualities fall into place. It is not a direct path, things will come up and it will get difficult but you have to keep pushing.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I always say I was blessed with the best mentor, Baylee Piñon. Ever since I started as a trainer at her gym (B PFITT GYM) she has been there to help guide me even in the most difficult times. Her support and dedication is and always will be so appreciated and inspiring to me.
