Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Slykat. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Slykat, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience from my mother. I was raised by a single mother that worked three jobs. She always found serenity through adversity and solutions to temporary problems. Whenever she went through something she never let it get the best of her or derail her from being a success story. If she didn’t have a car she caught the bus to work. If the bus wasn’t on time she would walk to work. She knew that work would provide for us and eventually she was walking further away from having to catch a bus or walking to work. I observed that and it’s allowed me to walk the walk in my life as well.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I make music to express my thoughts and convey my emotions with melody and rhythm. Each song is a painting that details my life past or present. I also allow the listener to get a preview of my vision for myself, the world, and those willing to dissect the lyrics. I’m also a partner with an up and coming sensational singing talent “Jersey Doll”, with a television show called “The Mental Margarita Show” which airs on CW Las Vegas Channel 33 every Sunday @ 2:35 am. The show is a platform for aspiring artists as well as entrepreneurs and community leaders across the world. We have also featured celebrities like Chris Jasper from The Isley Brothers, Doctor Dre from MTV’s Yo! MTV Raps, Hip-Hop pioneer Melle Mel, Grammy award winning Billy Vera, and more. We are celebrating our 2 year anniversary and excited to see our viewership and accessibility rapidly increase in over 300,000 households in Vegas including every hotel room in every casinos. We also service the surrounding areas such as Pahrump, Mesquite, and Laughlin. Recently, we created a partnership with Pride & Egoos Clothesline & Magazine to introduce “The Mental Margarita Show” Concert Series to all domestic and international markets.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three qualities would be resilience like we spoke about previously and also being patient and maintaining a smart and steady work ethic. I think improving to be resilient starts with first having passion for whatever you are striving for in life. Your patience improves when you realize that nothing comes easy and you have to never give up in order to achieve your goals. Don’t get bitter get better. Your time will come! You must work smart and hard and have consistency in order to make your dreams a reality.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Musically I love to collaborate with true artists that are comfortable being in their own skin and value the art. Any genre is allowed when there is artistic integrity. I just recently collaborated with Liz Lamere, wife of the punk rock icon “Alan Vega”, known for his unique deliver and extremely vivid lyrics. Alan’s music defined innovation like his artist work in galleries across the world. Liz was part of the nucleus of Alan’s sonic brilliance and now she represents his legacy with a captivating sound of her own as well. We have an unreleased project we are very excited about and it’s definitely different in a great way! “The Mental Margarita Show” is a constant collaboration with independent artists across the world.
