Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sm6. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi SM6, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Ooh, great question right off the bat! I think from an early age our entire family just loved to entertain people. Our sisters would put on little plays and force our parents to sit and watch whereas my brothers and I would steal our parents camcorder and make films – and then also force our family to watch. So that need to get people laughing or dancing or clapping was something that came at an early age and we are very fortunate to have figured that out so young and have parents that fostered that desire. We didn’t know we wanted to be in a band, however, until a little while later. We had all played piano at a very young age and everybody started branching off and finding their own instrument. Soon, we realized that we had almost the entire make of a band (except a bass which Isabel sportingly agreed to pick up) and the band kind of just happened. I think the biggest appeal of starting a band and why we’ve stuck it out so long was not that we got to entertain people but that we got to entertain people together. It’s been ten years now since we started and being able to do it together is the best part of the job.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
At the moment, our focus lies on performing a lot more. We’ve written more music that we’re indeed excited about, but feel it’s just as important to perform our already existing songs, This year, we’re looking to perform at colleges with APCA, among other opportunities as they come!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
There are quite a few qualities that we feel have been very impactful on our career helping us get to where we are today. The first one being perseverance. Remember to always stick to your craft and to keep pushing forward even when there doesn’t seem to be a clear path. The second would be to listen to your gut. At some point in your career you’re going to have to make some kind of hard decision on a subject that has you torn. It’s extremely important that in this situation you listen to your gut and do what feels right. Lastly, to remain positive. The best way to work with these qualities and adopt them into your daily habits would be to remember your end goal. It’ll keep you motivated, you’ll have the energy to persevere through, and you’ll have positive mindset to accomplish your goals because you’re reminded that you’re doing what you love.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
It’s common to get overwhelmed, especially under the magnifying glass of social media. In these times we like to disconnect from our phones and engage in personal hobbies that clear our heads. Being there are six of us, our cures for a cluttered mind varies – but it usually involves going for a walk, meditating, reading a book, watching the OC, or simply taking a nap. It’s simple fixes but that’s almost always the cure for when you’re in a state of disarray – simplicity. If we could drop any advice, we’d say keep it simple. Give your mind that’s racing a million miles an hour a rest. Turn it off and just chill.
