We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Soheila Agwuh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Soheila, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome has been one of my toughest challenges. With so many successful brands saturating the skincare market, it’s easy to feel like starting your own company is a waste of time and resources. However, I choose to focus on what makes us different. Most companies are using at least one ingredient that is completely artificial in order to preserve their product. We use absolutely none and still deliver results. Customers always report an improvement in the condition of their skin after using our Total Body Butter. Having a quality product or service that you truly believe in always creates space for you in any industry.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Mondiah Essentials creates preservative-free, plant-based skincare for all skin types. Our moisturizers and cleansers can be used head to toe.
As a mother of many children, I was seeking clean skin care for our entire family. We found the market lacking basic products that were free of toxins, effective, and affordable, so we decided to study natural skin care and create our own!
It started as just a DIY skincare project that we shared with family, friends, and coworkers. Eventually, people came back with great feedback and requesting to actually buy from us. Then we decided to do extensive plant-based research to create a brand and move forward with establishing a business.
We are growing at a steady pace with local market and vendor events, as well as, partnering with other small retail businesses as a wholesale supplier.
The reviews of our products speak for themselves as word of mouth is a big source of our traffic.
Our line of products will eventually debut cleansing bars, deodorant, and lip balm in addition to our Total Body Butter. We couldn’t be more excited!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Creativity, ambition, and discipline are the most important qualities that keep me going as an entrepreneur. Having the imagination to develop a vision for your brand, the drive to implement the vision, and will to stick to a plan makes all the difference in the journey. I always say “It doesn’t matter how slow you’re going. As long as you don’t stop, then you’re getting somewhere.” Stay the course and one day it will open doors for you.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale was a quick and impactful read. I keep this little book on my desk to refer to in times when I’m losing focus or feeling uninspired and it helps me recalibrate. The Strangest Secret makes several great points about what success looks like and how to be inspired to achieve it. It really gets into the power of mindset towards manifesting the future that you want. Any quest to fortune and fame always starts with a thought followed by action.
