We were lucky to catch up with Solange Neustadter recently and have shared our conversation below.
Solange, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Pain has always been my biggest motivator, and being in pain is unbearable to me (as is everyone), and so I’ve always sought ways to get out of my pain or transform it into strength (e.g resilience.) Towards that end, I’ve sought out teachers and techniques that help us embrace our shadow side and maximize a sense of peace and wellbeing. My journey since I was 18 has led me to practicing all kinds of modalities from meditation, to somatic work, dance, psychedelics healings, Stellate Ganglion Blocks, writing and creative expression, comedy study, eastern philosophies. One of my biggest challenges was the suicide of a boyfriend. The pain of his death was earth shattering, and so I pursued my healing with even more gusto and had to literally pull my life force up from my devastated bootstraps. The experience of moving through grief and extreme loss and studying and utilizing any and all modalities that could help me move through my pain is one of the biggest ways in which I developed my resilience.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My background is 15 + years working as a psychologist, writing & screenwriting, and now I utilize my professional and personal experiences to guide women into greater embodiment, turned on radiance, and foster a sense of belonging. I shifted from focusing on people’s problems, traumas, and pain, to activating women’s struggles through embodiment and pleasure work. I believe that joy, fun, and belonging are the most important facets of living a fulfilling life, and so I facilitate unique, bold, invigorating groups for women to help ttap into what makes them feel alive and connected.
My latest offering is a 6 week in-person journey called ‘Outrageous Bitches Who Feel Alive’ where I teach 10 powerful and life-changing tools for turn-on, outrageousness, and how to activate our desires, while in community. Our final session is on a boat because there’s nothing more therapeutic and fun than a boat day!
I also host a monthly online session called Caffeine and Dares—where we dare each other to take actions beyond participants’ wildest dreams.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. “Women come alive in the Outrageous!” – a teaching from my mentor which has really helped me step out of my comfort zone, be more bold and confident in my life, push my edges, and have way more fun than ever. Outrageousness is contagious, and when we all play full out it opens up more of what’s possible and keeps expanding us.
2. Reaching for some form of ordinary pleasure, and naming three things that brought me pleasure each day even if I think I have nothing. The practice is in noticing, savoring, and being grateful for it. Writing it down every day expands my muscle for appreciating my life and transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. It could be the simple smile from a barista, the smell of jasmine, or the wind on my cheek.
3. Bragging! This is for women specifically, because women have mostly been conditioned to be humble, quiet, and downplay their incredible achievements. The practice of bragging each day either in a journal, with a friend, or in a selected group chat helps women appreciate their own magnificence and how much they do every day that rarely gets acknowledged. Brag about being a mom, brag about your outfit, brag about the supportive shoulder you lent a friend, the meal you made, the meal you didn’t make, how fun you are, the vacation you just got back from, how funny you are, and on and on… let it rip without shame or self-judgement!
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is a woman who is always on a quest to discover more of who she is, loves personal growth and development, and may or may not have her sh*t or her purpose figured out yet. She’s creative but may not know exactly how to express or use her creativity. She wants something more, craves something deeper than the usual conventional version of life. She yearns to utilize all of her potential, know her gifts, own her beauty, and live the fullest, biggest, most alive, fully expressed, and actualized version of herself.
