Meet Sōlful Hornz

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sōlful Hornz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sōlful below.

Hi Sōlful, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?

Most of our self discipline comes from growing up in the church. Our background in marching band played a big part as well.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

“Sōlful Hornz” is a group of HBCU educated musicians, producers, composers, arrangers, and educators based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 2020, our members include: Dorran Thigpen on Trumpet, and Nate Myers IV & Ryan Kilgore on Saxophone. Collectively, we have a breadth of experience being featured on movies and television, and working with the likes of: Tye Tribbett, Earth Gang, Stevie Wonder, Ne-Yo, T.I., Teyana Taylor, BlackBerry Smoke, Jagged Edge, Q Parker of 112, and many others. They recently released their latest single “The Light” which is available everywhere online.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Stay focused, and do not let anyone or anything deter you from walking into your purpose/passion. Also, exercise having faith in spite of what your current situation or support might look like. Don’t compare yourself to others, PERIOD! Practice self care (exercise, diet, etc.). You definitely want to be able to be around to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Work on your people/professionalism skills. These qualities have helped us along this wonderful journey.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

One of our biggest areas of growth has been further learning how to work as a group and realizing that we can get more done as a unit instead of trying to do every single thing by ourselves. We have all made great strides and accomplishments individually, but success is so much sweeter when you can share it with others.
