Meet Soneka Dekid

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Soneka Dekid a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Soneka, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Honestly, I didn’t initially have it. It actually came from strangers who appreciated my work and would openly let me know and give me motivation to continue working on my craft. Strangers who would reach out to highlight my growth. Trusting me to have them as my canvas.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a Certified Makeup Artist, who specializes in Soft Glam, editorials and Bridal. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside amazing artists in the industry and brand(s). I offer mobile services. I am also in the process of launching my 1 on 1 virtual makeup course for beginners and intermediate. My work can be found in various areas from event goers to runways to magazines.

I’m currently available for bookings

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three of the most impactful things on my journey where,
1. Believing in myself, even when you didn’t feel confident or persons made you feel uncomfortable follow through, and not show it in your demeanor.

2. Personality, being personable polite, respectful and kind are very important. These traits will put you in rooms and create connections you would never have expected.

3. Quick thinking; I think this one is major, because there are times situations will pop up that you may not have experienced before and you don’t want your clients to be alarmed. So you need to be able to think and correct, this also leads to creativity. You’d be surprised.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

I don’t necessarily think I have an ideal client. I can however speak to my skills and attribute and if that’s what someone is looking for then I’m their person. I special in enhancing a persons beauty and not focusing in making them into a whole other person. Making my area of specialty Soft Glams and Editorial.
