Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to SONiA Disappear fear . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
SONiA, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
It has always been important to me to sing. There is something so natural and powerful about music – it is the only activity that uses both sides of the brain. When I am really in the moment of the music the whole universe becomes connected and I am one with all. Growing up in the 60s and 70s there were songs on the radio that were about making the world a better place – it was a totally organic step to live into making the world come together in a song. I believed it then and I believe it now.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am reaching out to touch the stars. By stars I mean the light and energy in all things. My independent record label is releasing my 23rd album hence the title Album 23. I feel the tone, content and energy of these songs will give the listener an experience of connection to her his their own life in a “ yeah, me too “ kind of way. Album 23 is a culmination of songs from the past 7 years of my life.-deep personal loss, racism, BLM, wisdom of great heroes of democracy, and the heroes that surround me every day, climate change, being a woman, materialistic verses spiritual and love verses fear. The genres include alt-country to rock to folk to queer pop rock
to space tech.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
These are terrific questions. 3 qualities that absolutely were and are still to some degree paramount to my journey are 1- relentless passion 2- a bit of talent 3- naivety. – i think every body has great potential at something and diving into that creates great momentum for a worthwhile career. I really believe(d) in my ability to take a room into my song. I had no idea of the pervasive gravity of ‘must look like this /must sound like this’ equated with level of success. But it could only be exactly as it is – we each have our own lives to search out our purpose. My words of wisdom is to quote a quote I love – “When You Can Be Anything- Be Kind”.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The book Be Here Now by Richard Alpert aka Ram Dass really had a great impact on me. It slowed down my anxiety to have all my dreams become a reality in the the first 5 hours of every day. It also helped me tame my jealousy or frustration and channel this kind of destructive energy into cardio activities. Currently I’m reading Dave Grohl’s The Story Teller – autobiography and it is wonderful to learn about his journey. I’m especially enjoying the parallel feelings of his perspectives on rock music and the clubs he performed in and the difficult choices one has to make to achieve what the heart aches to accomplish.
