Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sonia Fregoso, M.a., Lmft. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sonia, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
My journey toward healing began in 2006, a year that altered the course of my life. I was in an abusive relationship, experienced an unexpected pregnancy and abortion, lost my maternal grandmother, and became estranged from parts of my family—all while navigating my final year of high school. At the time, I didn’t understand the weight of grief I was carrying. Like many first-gen Latines, I was taught to suppress pain, prioritize family, and push forward. But the pain didn’t disappear—it lived in my body.
It wasn’t until I took my first psychology class that I began to wake up. Learning about the mind and behavior opened doors I didn’t even know were closed. Journaling and dream analysis revealed long-buried emotions, and for the first time, I started questioning everything—my family dynamics, my religious beliefs, and the ways I had learned to silence myself. I had been raised in a deeply religious home, where faith was used as both comfort and control. The fear of questioning God, of stepping outside the expectations placed on me, had kept me from exploring who I truly was.
Therapy was another turning point. In my first session, I sobbed uncontrollably, unable to articulate the depth of what I had been carrying. As I continued, more truths began to surface. One of the most painful revelations came through somatic therapy and psychedelic-assisted healing—I uncovered memories of sexual abuse at the hands of my paternal uncle, something my mind had protected me from for over thirty years. The weight of that truth unraveled everything I thought I knew about myself.
Healing from that trauma required more than talk therapy; it demanded that I reconnect with my body, release the shame that was never mine to hold, and reclaim my spiritual path on my own terms. I turned to ancestral wisdom, somatic practices, and energy healing, learning to trust myself again.
My purpose became clear: to share my story and be a living example of healing. I don’t just offer tools—I embody what it means to move through adversity, to break free from generational wounds, and to trust in the wisdom that has always been within me. Healing is possible, and I am here to show others that they are not alone.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a therapist, intuitive healer, and guide for those navigating grief, trauma, and self-reconnection. My work blends psychology, ancestral wisdom, and somatic healing to create a space where individuals can heal in ways that feel safe and aligned with their bodies.
At the heart of my practice is the belief that healing is deeply personal and nonlinear. My own journey—through generational trauma, religious conditioning, and sexual trauma—taught me that true healing isn’t just about understanding pain but about reconnecting with our bodies and intuition. I integrate this understanding into my work, offering a holistic approach that goes beyond traditional therapy.
I offer a range of services, including 1:1 somatic healing sessions, emotional limpias, intuitive coaching, and written tarot reflections. My Soma + Spirit coaching program helps individuals move beyond talk therapy, guiding them through emotional, physical, and spiritual healing. I also provide business coaching for therapists, helping them decolonize their practice and build businesses rooted in intuition and sustainability.
What makes my work special is its deeply culturally-rooted and body-centered approach. I don’t teach rigid healing methods—I help people listen to their own wisdom, trust their inner knowing, and move through life in a way that honors their energy. My clients often come to me when they feel disconnected, stuck in grief, or burdened by trauma that talk therapy alone hasn’t been able to reach.
I have expanded my work beyond 1:1 sessions with my self-guided emotional healing course, designed for those looking to build emotional and somatic intelligence in a trauma-informed and sustainable way. This course provides practical tools and guidance for processing emotions, reconnecting with the body, and deepening self-trust—all at your own pace. It’s available now for those ready to explore healing on their own terms.
For those who are ready to explore healing beyond the limitations of Western mental health frameworks, my work offers a grounded and intuitive path toward self-trust and transformation.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey—both in my own healing and in guiding others—the three most impactful skills I’ve learned and now teach are patience, practice, and persistence. These are the pillars of sustainable healing, and without them, the process can feel overwhelming or even impossible.
1) Practice: Healing is a skill. In order to improve or master a set of skills you need to practice. Choose one or two healing skills that work for you (mine is meditation), practice that skill until you master it.
2) Patience: with yourself, with others, with the healing process. Healing is not a race, it’s not a competition. LESS is more in the healing world because too much, too fast is what caused the trauma in the first place.
3) Persistence: Healing is difficult AT FIRST because we are learning something new (how to heal). Keep trying and learning at YOUR OWN PACE, don’t give up. You deserve to heal. Take breaks to resource with the intention to get back on your path.
For those early in their healing journey, my advice is this: Start small, be patient with yourself, and keep going. If we truly want to pass down generational healing, we must teach safe & sustainable ways of doing this work.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal clients are those who are ready to explore healing in a way that honors their lived experiences, intuition, and ancestral wisdom. I work with women, femmes, and non-binary people of the Global Majority (BIPOC) who seek healing, self-trust, and nervous system support. Many of my clients come to me feeling disconnected—from themselves, their bodies, or their cultural roots—and are looking for a gentle, decolonized, and intuitive approach to their healing journey.
I also support heart-centered entrepreneurs, therapists, and healers who want to break away from Western wellness industry norms and integrate a more sustainable, embodied approach to their personal and professional growth. Whether they are navigating burnout, emotional exhaustion, or feeling out of alignment with their work, I guide them in reconnecting with themselves in a way that feels expansive and true to their capacity.
Additionally, my work is deeply aligned with first-gen, Latinx, and children of immigrants who are unlearning colonial and religious conditioning while reclaiming their ancestral and cultural wisdom. Many of my clients are in a season of questioning—wanting to deconstruct beliefs that no longer serve them while creating new ways of being that feel true to who they are.
At the core of my work is the belief that healing is not about fixing—it’s about remembering. My ideal clients are those who are ready to reconnect with their bodies, hold space for their emotions, and approach healing in a way that is sustainable, culturally grounded, and intuitive.
