Hi Sonia, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I found my purpose starting my own event planning company when I realized how much joy, connection, and impact could come from bringing people together. Ever since I was young and being in a big Italian family we always had events or parties. My amazing mom would always plan or coordinate, cater for the event and decorate. I loved helping her and gained valuable knowledge from that. So as I got older and my circle of family and friends, I was always the “go to person” to plan parties, or any kind of events. I realized how much joy and fulfillment I got from bringing people together and creating memorable experiences. Blue Skye Events was born from that passion – turning something I loved into a business where I could help others bring their visions to life, stress-free.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Blue Skye Events came from the idea of limitless possibilities – like a “blue sky day” full of optimism and opportunity. That’s what I want to give clients: events that reflect their dreams without limits. That mindset really sparked the business and continues to guide everything I do. Over the years I’ve built strong relationships with top-tier vendors, I have built meaningful relationships with my clients, and have been able to create a business that reflects my values, my style, and my passion for meaningful memorable events.
One thing that I provide, that is unique to most other event planning companies is a very clear, quick, and constant communication with my clients and vendors. Unfortunately, I’ve heard too many times from clients that they have not received responses to their inquiries either quickly or just ever. Nobody likes to feel “ghosted.” I also do not limit the number of times I communicate with my clients throughout the planning process. Some companies will only have a few meetings as part of their contract. However, I prefer to allow my client to contact me whenever they have any questions or concerns or need assistance. Responding quickly, clearly and consistently helps my clients to feel safe supported and confident in my services.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities or skills that were most impactful in my journey of becoming an event planner are: organization, and attention to detail, vendor, and venue, knowledge, and relationship building and communication with my clients.
Regarding organization and attention to detail, planning events, me struggling tons of moving parts, such as venues, vendors, schedules, contracts, decor, logistics. Being organized helps you manage it all smoothly.
Vendor and venue knowledge means knowing and having a great relationship with the best vendors in the industry such as caterers DJs floors, rental companies, etc. And understanding the venue and their policies and procedures.
Clear, quick and consistent or continual communication with my client is very important to me. My success will heavily rely on building strong relationships with my clients as well as vendors. I want my clients to feel safe and supported the route the planning process so that they can be confident in my services to provide them with an amazing memorable experience for their special day.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

The number one obstacle or challenge I face right now are those that want to do their own planning of their event or have their families or friends involved and manage it. There is a lot of DIY influence right now, such as with Pinterest and a lot of creativity there. And most people see hiring a planner as an additional cost or expense to their budget. Having their family, such as mom, sister, friend try to run the show for the event is difficult when they are “in the show.” This causes extra stress and frustration for everyone. I believe this comes from a lack of knowledge of what event planners actually do for their clients. I try to overcome this with clear communication with my clients with my consultations. I inform my client of what they can expect from me and how I can help them actually save money in the long run by assisting them with their budget management. Also, my relationship ps with many vendors can help give the, some discounts.
