Meet Sonya Hernandez

We were lucky to catch up with Sonya Hernandez recently and have shared our conversation below.

Sonya, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I understand that opportunities must be pursued. Every situation that I have been in that has been out of my comfort zone I approached it as an opportunity to learn, grow, and seize what may be. What’s different is often attractive to others and I’ve learned to use this to my advantage to make a lasting impression that has led to many unique opportunities.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the founder of the nontoxic haircare brand Recover Restore Gro. Over the last 25 years of my career, I have seen the damage that toxins in our environment have caused and the effects they leave behind. This motivated me to rewrite the script about what clean hair products look like.

Carefully blending science and nature Recover Restore Gro remains free of harmful preservatives such as phthalates, sulfates, silicones, and parabens.

I am here to change the standard set that what we reach for as women should be good for us. My net mission is to spread awareness by providing safer cleaner alternatives for today’s consumer while providing a cleaner option to Recover Restore Gro your hair.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Empathy, kindness, and being open to learning new things even if you understand something very well. These skills have helped me excel in my field. Also, how you make others feel while they are in your presence makes a lasting impression on how they receive your message and gift. You can say things all day to people, but how they feel when they’re in your presence makes a lasting impression.

These skills can be developed by volunteering to work with underprivileged and underserved communities or by performing menial tasks when no one is watching. Also, keep your toilet clean… sounds strange but if you are willing to do the dirty work you can keep a level head when you receive praise and accolades to make the right decisions. Remembering my roots has added to my success and kept my feet on the ground.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Community over competition is so important and attractive to me. I love a good organic collaboration. I especially appreciate working with individuals who are already confident in own their field, and who know and understand their brand voice well. I love connecting and discovering new brands on social media and merging our audiences for a collaborative experience. Lifestyle, wellness, and other cosmetic brands have worked for me in the past.
