We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sophia Franzone a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sophia, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My family is my anchor. They ground and support me through the roughest of times. They push me to be the best I can be and taught me the true meaning of strength. Even when I feel like quitting, the unconditional love they show keeps me going because I know that if I ever fail, I still have them. It is comforting and selfless, and for that, I am grateful.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Sophia Franzone. I am a 4x Certified Licensed Cosmetic and Paramedical Tattoo Artist and the owner of Beseem Beauty LLC, independently contracted by The Lash Lounge Memphis – White Station. I currently offer microblading, ombre powder brows, permanent eyeliner, and lip blushing, and I am currently taking models for scar camouflage and inkless stretch mark revision. It’s exciting! All of my services are dear to my heart because of what permanent makeup has personally done for me. After giving birth, I would look in the mirror and not even recognize myself. Getting permanent makeup boosted my confidence, and I immediately knew that was my calling. Being able to provide this experience to others everyday is a blessing, and I am forever thankful.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Perseverance, problem-solving, and integrity, without a doubt. It can be difficult to market yourself and build clientele when starting out, but I’ve found that you have to take it one day and one client at a time. When I first started, I had just moved to Memphis and only knew about 10 people. It took a lot of perseverance, problem-solving, and integrity to keep going and create a name for myself that aligns with my core values of honesty, trust, and customer safety and satisfaction.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
That would have to be my mentor, Jeanette Wirz. Having a mentor in the permanent makeup industry has been a game changer. No matter what the challenge is, I can go to her and receive help from a more experienced professional that runs the same kind of business I do.
