Meet Sophia Schooley Alvarado

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sophia Schooley Alvarado a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophia, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

My generosity really comes from growing up in a very creative and giving family. My mom was deeply involved in theatre, and my dad is a musician, so I’ve always been surrounded by people who give their time, energy, and talent to bring joy to others. From a young age, I saw how powerful it was to share your gifts—whether it was performing for a school play, helping a friend with a creative project, or volunteering at local events.
That naturally carried over into my own work. With Fairytale Fable, generosity isn’t just about giving, it’s about creating experiences that make people feel seen, valued, and magical for a moment. Whether it’s staying a little longer to make sure every child gets a photo with a character, or going the extra mile to craft a special event, it’s all about using what I have—my skills, my time, and my creativity—to bring happiness to others. I think seeing the impact of that generosity on families and communities has reinforced it as a core part of who I am.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m the co-owner of Fairytale Fable, a professional character and event entertainment company based in Colorado Springs. We bring beloved characters and immersive experiences to life for birthdays, community events, corporate parties, and larger-scale themed events like our princess balls and tribute shows. What’s most exciting about our work is seeing the joy and magic we create for families and communities—making every child, and even adults, feel like part of the story.
All of our performers are trained singers, dancers, and actors, which allows us to go beyond a standard character visit and create memorable, interactive experiences. One of the things I’m most proud of is building a company that combines professionalism, creativity, and inclusivity, giving our audiences high-quality entertainment while fostering a supportive and imaginative environment for our performers.
Right now, we’re excited about our upcoming Valentine’s Princess Ball coming up in February. It’s one of our biggest events of the year and we are so excited! We’re also thrilled to share that we’ve been nominated for Best of the Springs for Best Place for a Birthday, and it would mean so much to us if our community votes to support us. Overall, our focus is on creating experiences that leave lasting memories and bring a little more joy and magic into everyday life.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are creativity, perseverance, and building a strong community.
Creativity has been the foundation of everything we do at Fairytale Fable, it’s what allows us to craft memorable experiences, design unique events, and think outside the box. Perseverance has been equally important because running a business and building something from the ground up comes with challenges and setbacks. And having a strong community, people who support you, believe in your mission, and collaborate with you, has been invaluable, both personally and professionally. I’ve met some of my lifelong friends through theatre and this business, and that support has made all the difference.
For anyone early in their journey, my advice would be: don’t be afraid to embrace your creativity, even if it feels risky; stay persistent through the challenges, because growth often comes from overcoming obstacles; and surround yourself with people who share your vision and genuinely support you. Those connections and that mindset will help you develop these qualities and navigate your path more successfully.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes! We are always excited to collaborate with individuals and organizations who share our passion for creativity, performance, and community engagement. This could include other performers, local businesses, schools, event venues, community centers, or event organizers who are interested in creating magical, memorable experiences for families and audiences of all ages.
If you’re interested in collaborating with Fairytale Fable, we’d love to hear from you! You can connect with us via our website, social media channels, or by emailing us directly at [email protected]. We’re always open to brainstorming ideas, partnering on events, and finding ways to bring more joy and creativity to the community together.
