Meet Sophia Su

We recently connected with Sophia Su and have shared our conversation below.

Sophia, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?

I haven’t always had an easy journey when it comes to my passions and endeavors from both acting and modeling. When I was younger, I always had the passion of wanting to become a child actor/model but didn’t have the support system of people who were willing to bring me to opportunities to pursue my endeavors. All the way up until I started college and was able to gain some independence and getting my license I was able to start jumping to opportunities from modeling photo shoots to working. on set for TV/Film, and short film stuff. I was able to start building my portfolio and even with that you do experience people who look at you and still have something to say from ranging from fake friends who have secret animosity and even other creative’s who are not as open to working with newcomers. I’ve been met with phrases such as “You do acting/modeling? I could never do that,” or with my own family who tells me its not a viable career and that I shouldn’t pursue it because it is not a stable endeavor. It did put me into a bad mindset where I doubted my abilities thinking I wasn’t good enough or even taking rejection to heart.

I chose to keep persisting, realizing that this is my life and that its better to go for what I want and not regret it, rather than listen to others opinions to dictate whether what I want is good enough. Everyday I continue to be able to do little things and opportunities to build my experience putting me one step closer to where I want to be.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am an actress, model, and a content creator. I enjoy on camera acting from short films to commercials. I have done a student short film ,a video/print commercial, and worked on set for tv shows and an upcoming film. From modeling I like fashion/editorial being able to dress up and do many looks is what I enjoy. With content creation, I focus on mainly beauty/skincare/and fashion and sometimes lifestyle

I love being able to work on set with people making a story/vision come to life and short films are especially those. With Modeling I love being able to explore with different looks such as fashion and editorial.

I recently got into the groove of trying to produce+act in my own short films by getting together other like minded creatives because its all about creating your own opportunities rather than waiting for it.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

To start off with, I think its important to develop a sense of resilience. You may not always have an easy journey, you can have roadblocks along the way but whats important is to overcome and adapt knowing you will come out fine the other side. I’ve encountered many things from unsupportive family, fake friends, which can impact your emotional wellbeing. it is difficult knowing you don’t have a strong support system that you wish you could have like other people but you have to remind yourself that you can make it it may not be easy but you will get there eventually. Learning to not take rejection seriously is also what I learned from this whether it be for acting or modeling.

My advice for people early on is that just because people around you won’t support you or approve of it doesn’t mean that you aren’t good enough to do it. You may experience those who try to project limiting beliefs onto you, people who try to gate keep from you when you try to get involved. There are people out there who will see your worth and talent for who you are and that you have a place in where you want to be

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I always love to collaborate with more people such as camera crew, other actors, photographers, writers, etc. I love making stories and visions come to life and I want people to know that I am always open to ideas and new people to meet and talk to to converse ideas

whether it be for short films, photoshoots I am always open!
