We recently connected with Sophie Blondin and have shared our conversation below.
Sophie, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I try to carve out as much time for myself as possible to re-center. Sometimes, I’ll lay in my garden to meditate or listen to an audiobook. Other times, I’ll go for walks to connect with nature, soaking in the sights of trees, plants, and animals, even if it’s just around my neighborhood. I make it a point to listen to my inner voice and follow my creative instincts.
Whether it’s playing music, doing embroidery, cooking a meal, improvising a fun workout, or trying something new like watercolor painting, I believe creativity touches every aspect of life. This creative time is essential to me as it helps me understand and shape who I am.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m an actor and content creator. I started acting at the age of 10 in Paris, France, and have now been living in Los Angeles for the past decade. Acting and storytelling have always been my passion and guiding star.
I love acting in all formats, so I work in movies, commercials, voiceovers, and motion capture for video games. Early in my career, I was thrilled to work on anything that came my way. Now, with 20 years of experience, I am more selective, choosing projects based on the story and message they convey. If it resonates with me, I’ll do it; if not, I’ll pass.
You can catch me in the latest EA SPORTS FC 25 trailer, as well as in commercials for Orange Theory and Chevy. One of the movies I’m in “Wages of Sin”, where I play an undercover cop alongside Stephen Cyrus Sepher and Danny Trejo, is in the process of coming out later this year.
Besides acting, I also run a YouTube channel with my husband called “Mike & Sophie” which is my other passion. We mainly feature our Dance & Dumbbells workouts, a format we created to make fitness fun and help people get moving. Health is a crucial part of my life and goes hand in hand with my career.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Perseverance, consistency, and kindness are essential to me.
Perseverance, or not giving up when things get difficult, has brought me to where I am today and will hopefully take me even further. I love the word “BELIEVE” from Ted Lasso because it encapsulates this idea perfectly. Consistency is equally important—continuing to sharpen your skills and showing up for yourself. When you put your intentions into the universe, they come back to you like a boomerang. This isn’t something I can easily describe, but it’s something I’ve noticed over the years: the more I show up for myself, the more good things come my way.
Kindness is also essential, both to myself and others. Throughout my journey, there have been many challenging moments. With years of experience in falling and getting back up, I’ve learned to stay kind to myself and trust the process. During the good times, I remind myself to stay humble and be kind to others. We’re all on this planet together, and remembering that has helped me a lot.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I’m currently obsessed with “The Creative Act: A Way of Being” by Rick Rubin. This book delves into the creative process and what it means to be an artist—a title I believe everyone holds, even if they don’t tap into it. Rubin’s wisdom and humility in his approach to work and life offer valuable lessons for everyone. I can listen to or read this book over and over again.
One fun thing I do with books is listening to the audiobook while reading the paperback and sometimes even reading aloud simultaneously. I find that this method helps me retain more information and makes me feel truly immersed in the book.
