We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Soupless a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Soupless, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
We love to try new things constantly and experiment as much as we can. Everything is fair game. Once you allow yourself to do whatever sounds good to you, the possibilities are endless.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
We are two roommates who make alternative rock music together! We love everything DIY and pride ourselves in our ability to problem solve. We met on the internet before going to college together, living in the same room for two years. During this time we did lots of experimentation and really found ourselves musically. Even outside of the music itself we started learning to work together, branding ourselves and taking different avenues to get our music heard. We find that intertwining our artistic passions with branding and marketing is necessary for the artist of today, and we’ve tried to embody this journey, open to any avenue that presents itself.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Our hardworking nature, our general knowledge, and our ability to change and grow has really helped us. If we had continued operating like we did in the first year of Soupless, we wouldn’t be close to where we are now. In the beginning we didn’t consider even playing live at all, and now have an entire live band we play frequently. For others, I’d recommend staying consistent and being open to unique avenues. I genuinely feel like the most success we have had has come from doing the weird things no one else would think of, like finding 100 Spotify playlists our song might fit well on or making 15 TikTok accounts. Be open to anything, there’s always a way!

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
The biggest area of growth has definitely been musicality for us in the past year, as we underwent a pretty substantial transformation. With our next big project I think this will show the most, as we went in directions that were pretty true to ourselves, simply doing what we thought sounded the best. We’ve worked hard on not being defined by a certain genre or trying to have a sound similar to someone else, and we think that this attitude is beginning to reflect in our new songs.
