Meet Spencer Fried

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Spencer Fried. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Spencer below.

Spencer, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

Being a creative begets a work ethic. You’re constantly motivated to make your ideas come to fruition so it necessitates a work ethic.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m one of the co-founders at Remsen, where we’re rethinking how products for aging are designed. We create everyday items that are not only functional but also beautiful—things like a pill container or a grab bar that you’d actually want to display in your home.

What I love most about what we do is how we’re shifting perspectives on aging. A lot of products for older adults feel clinical or like an afterthought, and we wanted to approach it differently—with thoughtfulness and optimism. Our designs are inspired by midcentury modernism and a belief that beauty should be accessible at every stage of life.

Right now, we’re getting ready for winter with some new launches, including playing cards and other items that bring joy to everyday routines. It’s exciting to see how people are connecting with what we’re building, and we’re looking forward to what’s next.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful things were curiosity, resilience, and a commitment to thoughtful design.

Curiosity has always pushed me to explore new ideas and challenge assumptions, especially about what products for aging could look like. It’s what keeps the work exciting and meaningful. Resilience is a close second—starting something new inevitably comes with setbacks, and being able to adapt and keep moving forward is key. Finally, thoughtful design is at the heart of everything we do at Remsen. It’s not just about how something looks but also how it functions and the emotion it evokes.

For anyone starting out, my advice would be: stay curious and open to learning, even from unexpected places. Invest in developing your ability to navigate challenges because they’re going to happen, and they’ll shape you. And lastly, whatever you’re creating, make sure it’s rooted in intention—people can sense when something has meaning behind it.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Absolutely—we’d love to collaborate with people who care about reshaping the conversation around age and aging. Whether you’re an influencer, designer, writer, or just someone passionate about making aging something to celebrate, we’re always looking for like-minded individuals to help expand this dialogue.

We’re especially interested in those who value thoughtful design and want to highlight how aging can be aspirational and beautiful. If this resonates with you, we’d love to connect! You can reach out to us directly through our website, Remsen.co, or send us a message on Instagram @remsen.co. Let’s start a conversation and see where it takes us.
