Meet Stacey Chandler

We were lucky to catch up with Stacey Chandler recently and have shared our conversation below.

Stacey, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience come from me having a pretty rough childhood. I was forced to grow up and take on adult responsibilities at a very young age.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I started my Online Bakery business 9 1/2 years ago after making and baking sweets for my friends and family for years and me losing a job that I had been on for years. Some years prior to me losing my job I had created what is now a popular worldwide treat :Cheesecake Stuffed Strawberries. The idea was created in my mind after seeing some cream cheese stuffed baby tomatoes and my love for Strawberry Cheesecake. I started making them for parties, social gatherings and etc.Everyone told me that I should start selling them.I was totally against it until I lost my job and seeing how much people loved them after me posting them on MySpace & Twitter. Little did I know that they went viral before that was even a thing. Lol. When the new social media sites (FB and IG) came along I posted them again and they took off again.I started to see them everywhere on other people’s post. I have now seen them on TV and in Cookbooks. That’s what I’ve been most proud of In my business.I also attended and graduated from Culinary School studying Baking and Pastry Arts 7 years ago.I wanted to learn the science behind baking. What makes me stand out in this business is that I not only provide sweets that look good. I want them to taste good as well so I don’t take any shortcuts.I also buy quality ingredients. I don’t sell or serve anything that I wouldn’t eat myself. What I would like for my potential clients, followers or fans to know is that I don’t follow many trends and I’m very honest about how something will look or taste.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Going to Culinary school gave me 3 skills that were most inpactful in my journey. I was taught about the science behind baking, How the presentation of my desserts and sweets matter and most importantly the business aspect. Not alot of people who own home bakeries think about adding electricity, gas or water into the cost of their products.besides the ingredients and time. I also recommend to anyone wanting to start a business to enroll into a business class.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Things that I have learned to do when I feel overwhelmed are very simple.I take a step back from what I’m doing. Try to relax and refocus. The man thing that thing that I started to do recently is ask for help from my family .They have learned some of my skills from watching me work over the years. I am very grateful for that.
