Meet Stacey Heidler

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stacey Heidler . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Stacey , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I would say I get my resilience from my experience working in the field. I worked many years in crisis stabilization and learning not to take things personally as well as being able to recover quickly so I can continue to help people is important to me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am currently a licensed mental health counselor. I started my journey in private practice in 2020 during the pandemic when I needed to be available to help my family. I learned that this was an amazing way I could help new clients and teach people how important mental health is in their lives. My background is in crisis intervention having served as a clinician on the crisis stabilization unit for many years working with individuals who had been Baker Acted. I then transitioned to working with adolescents and adults in substance abuse treatment working 4 plus years in their adolescent residential treatment center as well as helping in the adult residential treatment facility. I have worked with young adults and teens most of my career though love working with many different populations and individuals. I also loved furthering my education and learning new techniques to provide a better experience for my clients. Learning methods such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing or EMDR has give me a chance to offer my clients more options and better therapeutic techniques.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say that three qualities or skills that have been most impacted to me are compassion, integrity, and determination. I would say that advice I would provide to new clinicians or professionals starting out is to not give up even when things get hard or do not go as planned. Keep putting yourself out there and keep trying. I would also say marketing yourself and showing your skills to promote what you can provide your clients helps a lot when first starting the journey. I have learned to be more out going and try things outside of my comfort zone.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I would say my family and the therapy team I work with as well as my consultation team have been integral parts in helping me develop my skills and qualities. I have learned a lot from all of them which has helped in over coming challenges I have faced and building a successful career. Learning from people who have been in the field longer than me and building confidence has also helped in shaping my career.
