We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Stacey Millhorn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Stacey below.
Hi Stacey, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I am the oldest of three girls. We were raised by a mom who faced challenges growing up, but always pushed forward with a strong sense of determination. She chose to get not one, but two PhD’s while she has three girls at home and a husband who was going through Fellowship and starting an Oncology practice. She showed us that making a decision and executing a plan could result in great achievements.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
After 27 years in the pharmaceutical industry, I decided to open two wellness studios in Utah: Pure Sweat + Float Studio, Park City + South Jordan. It has been a HUGE learning opportunity across a wide range of challenges where I had no previous experience. In general, I am a curious person, so I found the process exciting. However, it has not all been easy. Going from the comfort of an annual salary, health insurance and a company car to becoming an entrepreneur responsible for building teams and compensating them was big shift!
Pure Sweat + Float Studio is a place for relaxation, healing and thriving. We offer full-spectrum infrared sauna which benefit both mental and physical health. We have clients that seek out infrared sauna for a variety of reasons including weigh loss, seasonal affect disorder, improving sleep and cardiovascular benefits along with detoxification. Our float suite is different than a float pod, it is 7 feet tall by 7 feet long. We have clients see out our suite due to the fear of being enclosed or claustrophobia. It contains 1500 lbs of medical grade Epsom salt, so you float effortlessly in magnesium rich, body temperature water. The suite has stars on the ceiling as well as light and sound tracks under water. Everything is customizable by the client while they are in their session.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I have strong will to succeed and will hustle to making things happen. My strongest skill opening the studio is my desire to collaborate versus compete with our local wellness businesses. I have built relationships through networking with other business owners and we try to support and enhance each others business instead of competing with each other. Lastly, I believe my knowledge of traditional and alternative medicine plays large role in educating our clients and community.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The largest challenge we face is education about our services and the multitude of benefits clients receive when they use the sauna or float consistently and the assumption the services come at high cost. When we mention sauna, most people assume our infrared sauna is similar to a traditional sauna they have experienced at a hotel or gym. There is a big difference between the two! Traditional saunas heat the air around you and are much hotter than an infrared sauna. Most people find it hard to breathe or feel panicked in that type of heat. Our Sunlighten full-spectrum saunas (far/mid/near wavelengths of light) are kept at 150 degrees and many clients share if feels like vacation. The infrared heats your body at a cellular level, heating you from the inside out. Far infrared penetrates your body the deepest and is beneficial for detoxification, weight loss and improving immunity. Mid infrared targets your muscles and joints improving pain, muscle recovery, cardiovascular health, mental health and reducing underlying inflammation. Near infrared targets skin and into the top layer of the muscle for anti-aging, wound healing and eczema. Float therapy is becoming more popular through social media. Reasons to float include improved sleep, reducing stress/cortisol, improving muscle recovery and brain health.
Currently, we host pop-ups at local businesses to engage and educate our local community about the benefits of infrared sauna and float therapy. Additionally, we host local businesses in our studios to introduce team members to the services we offer. We share content on social media about our services and the studio too.
