We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Stacey Stallings. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Stacey below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Stacey with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic not only comes from my parents but from my family in general.
I grew up just seeing hard work, dedication and just plain old resilience.
In Jamaica, we had entrepreneurs, teachers, farmers and officers. My dad was a Pastor and teacher while my Mom was an assistant Principal in Jamaica.
When we migrated to America, we had to start all over and my family worked their way back up.
We worked hard as a family, based on collaboration, team work and building strong relationships.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
A little selfish in my art – it’s my expression of what I want others to experience.
It took a long time for me to accept my Jamaican culture, to overcome the status of being an immigrant.
So, in my healing and desire to be more thoughtful I started creating. My first project was a 90 day hip hop planner – bringing me back to Paterson, NJ and then to Brooklyn, New York in the 80s. Listening to Kool Moe Dee, Eric B and Rakim, KRS One, Public Enemy, MC Shan, you name it, it developed my love for rap.
Designing this planner jump started a love for art that I had ignored for years.
I used to do calligraphy and art in high school and I missed those days.
BOSS Paper Company, came out of this desire to continue creating and realized, I want to express my Afro Caribbean heritage one design at a time.
B.O.S.S is a combination of our girls names and my name – Bria, Olivia, Sophia and Stacey.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
No matter what, never compromise yourself and all money is not good money.
Hold to these precepts and you won’t have to look over your shoulder.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Would love to partner with independent shops. Small businesses are the focal point of our community. If you would love to carry our products on your shelf, please reach out: [email protected]
I’ve now added greeting cards to the mix as well as totes, mugs and notebooks.
I’m excited what else is coming.
