Meet Staci Hubbard

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Staci Hubbard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Staci below.

Hi Staci, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

My generosity stems from a strong belief in community and connection. Growing up, I was taught the importance of giving back, whether that was time, resources, or simply a kind gesture. Over the years, I’ve seen how a little kindness or support can make a big difference in someone’s life, and that’s something I hold close to my heart. When we act with generosity, there is a ripple effect. When we support each other, we build stronger communities and lift each other up. Through my bookstore and events, I’m constantly reminded that generosity can come in many forms—whether it’s sharing knowledge, offering a helping hand, or just being there when someone needs encouragement. I truly believe that giving is not just about what we offer, but about the impact it creates and the connections it fosters.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m the founder of KC Book Beat and the owner of Legacy and Lore Bookstore. We believe that stories are not just ink on paper but portals—doorways to strange and wonderful places. We believe that books are companions waiting to be discovered.

What makes Legacy and Lore special isn’t just the books on the shelves, but the people we bring together. We shine a light on voices that might otherwise be overlooked—indie authors, local creators, and small businesses.

My daughter and I inherited over 10,000 books from my parents. Opening this bookstore became my way of honoring my parent’s legacy, breathing new life into the stories they cherished and sharing them with a community that values the beauty of the written word just as much as they did.

KC Book Beat was born out of a desire to build more than just a bookstore—I wanted to create a heartbeat for local literature. After opening Legacy and Lore, I quickly realized how many incredible indie authors and small businesses surround Kansas City, yet their stories sometimes get lost in the noise. So, the idea for KC Book Beat sparked—a way to shine a spotlight on those voices, amplifying the stories that matter most to our community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Resilience, community, and willingness to learn have been the most impactful qualities on my journey.

Resilience has been key because, let’s face it, not everyone wants you to succeed. Whether it’s doubt, competition, or plain negativity, you’ll run into resistance. The trick is not to let it stop you—keep pushing forward.

Community is essential. Success doesn’t happen in isolation—it’s built through collaboration and shared passion. My advice is to surround yourself with people who believe in what you’re doing and invest in those connections. Real relationships go beyond networking—they’re about building something meaningful together..

The last is willingness to learn. I’ve learned that you don’t need all the answers right away. What matters is staying curious, adaptable, and open to growth. Trust yourself to learn as you go—every experience, even the tough ones, becomes part of your progress.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was pass down their love for stories and over 10,000 books! They weren’t just readers—they were collectors and curators of knowledge. They taught me that books are more than just objects—they’re experiences, connections, and lifelong companions. Stories have the power to inspire, heal, and bring people together.
