Meet Stacia Crawford

We recently connected with Stacia Crawford and have shared our conversation below.

Stacia , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose when I was working as an intern at a television station in Philadelphia. I was a junior in college and I worked as a TV news production assistant after class and on weekends. I got to see the inner workings of a newsroom up close and personal. I had always wondered who gets to determine what gets on the news and what doesn’t. I remember often seeing stories about people of color told in a negative light. That’s when I became determined to help marginalized communities tell their stories and control their own narratives. I heard the African proverb that says “Until the lion tells the story, the hunter will always be the hero.” That message truly resonated with me. Since then, it has been my mission to use storytelling as a tool for impact and positive change.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have worked as a TV news producer for more than three decades, and I have seen it all. I have covered breaking news stories from presidential elections and terrorist attacks, to sports championships and a global pandemic. But the stories I love most are the ones that showcase the true beauty and unity of our world. I believe we are more alike than we are different and the only way we get to see our commonalities is through stories.

I love my work as a publicist and media strategist because I get to help hidden gems become household names. When clients begin working with me, they often don’t recognize the true power of their story, knowledge and experiences. Stories are the foundation of human connection. Stories motivate and inspire. Stories can also build trust and challenge societal norms. This is how we spark real change and create monumental impact. I believe the media holds a vital responsibility to showcase stories that contribute to a more authentic and understanding world.

I consider it an honor to be able to give entrepreneurs, and thought leaders access to media platforms that can literally change their lives for the better.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most impactful skills were relationship-building, written and verbal communication, and the ability to adapt to changing situations and environments. It’s important to be able to make friends with journalists and understand what they need. It’s like having a rolodex of media friends ready to spread the good word about their clients.
You must be able to speak and write like a pro. Whether you’re crafting a winning press release or delivering an impactful interview, words are always going to be your secret sauce.
And being adaptable is a must! In the world of news and public relations, things change fast so you have to be able to go with the flow. Whether it’s breaking news, a growing celebrity trend, or an unexpected crisis, you must always be ready to pivot and roll with the punches.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My business coach has been one of the most impactful influences when it comes to running a successful business. I started my PR agency while I was working full-time as a TV news producer. As a serial entrepreneur I had never considered owning and operating my business full-time. I had a side hustle mentality until my coach planted a seed. She showed me that I had to know my value. I didn’t realize I had been using my skills, talents, and gifts to grow someone else’s business (the TV station), when I could have been growing my own. She taught me that success doesn’t take time, it takes courage. I also had to embody the concept that running a successful business is not just about the tactics and the strategies, it has more to do with your identity that anything else. I had to own my identity as an empowered business owner. Once I did that, everything changed for me and doors opened, allowing me to seize opportunities that I never could have dreamed of.
