Meet Stacy Paul

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stacy Paul a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Stacy, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
I think I’m naturally a pretty optimistic person anyway, but I definitely remind myself daily to look for the positives. As it applies to wedding photography, I try to remind myself that when things go wrong, it generally opens creative doors. You just have to look for them.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a wedding and portrait photographer based out of central Florida. I absolutely adore photographing weddings, near and far. One of my big goals right now is to book more destination weddings. There is something about traveling somewhere new that really speaks to me creatively. As an artist, I thrive when I’m surrounded by new things.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Persistence, Patience, and Courage. Specifically if you are in an creative industry. Trying new things, and putting those things out there for the world to see is terrifying. I think imposter syndrome gets to all of us in one way or another. You have to muster up the courage to try. If something doesn’t work, make adjustments and try again. It’s hard getting started, you just have to put one foot in front of the other, and do it.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Summers are always hard for me. Florida presents a whole host of obstacles (mostly weather related) that tend to keep business slow. So much time inside, and not shooting makes me antsy. I’m currently brainstorming some personal projects to keep me busy until wedding season starts up again.
