Meet Stan Popovich

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stan Popovich. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Stan, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Hello!

My name is Stan Popovich, and I am a Penn State graduate who struggled with anxiety for 20+ years.

There were many times in my life I felt like giving up. During these difficult times, my anxieties and fears were so powerful that I had trouble getting through each week.

The most difficult thing I faced when struggling with my mental health was finding the answers that would take away my anxieties and fears in a timely manner.

The Problems People Face In Getting Help

Mental health counseling can get very expensive even with health insurance.

Many of the low-cost mental health programs have a waiting list of many months.

There were many times I had to change counselors due to staff changes which disrupted my progress and recovery.

The mental health books I read were very long and covered only a few techniques.

What I Did To Get Help In My Own Life

I decided to make things a lot easier for myself to get the relief that I desperately needed.

I documented all of my sessions I had with various counselors into a small notebook. I also wrote down every technique I learned in managing my mental health over 20+ years.

I also included personal insights from those who struggled with their mental health.

I eventually organized my notes into a small book titled A Layman’s Guide to Managing Fear.

This book goes into great detail on the variety of today’s most current techniques and approaches including some spiritual techniques that many people use.

The motivation of getting help for myself and sharing that help with others served my purpose.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I struggled with anxiety for over 20 years and I wrote a book based on my experiences.

I created a website www.managingfear.com which offers a lot of free advice for people who can’t afford to get my book.

I have been featured on NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox News and I have done multiple TV and radio interviews.

I also write for many newspapers and national magazines featuring my mental health expertise.

My goal is to provide helpful mental health content to those who are struggling with various mental health disorders.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Determination
2. Perserverance
3. Hopefullness

The key is to follow your heart. Do what you like to do and do not listen to those people who tell you that your wasting your time.

You can’t please everybody. Its your life and you go to do what is best for you!

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

I struggle with my mental health on a daily basis. I am thankful that I have the skills, insights, and experiences to get through each day. Many people do not have the knowledge that I have and that is why I share a lot of my free mental health advice on my website www.managingfear.com

I always put my mental health first before anything else. I sometimes get grief by others but I feel that I got to do what is best for me.

Many people do not experience the effects of mental illness and do not understand those people who do.

My goal is to do the best I can with what I got which is to learn as much as I can in dealing with various mental health issues.
