Meet StarAV

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful StarAV. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with StarAV below.

StarAV, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

At this point, I’m uncertain about what “purpose” even means. Is it the widely accepted notion of a singular guiding star directing one’s entire life? Or can one have multiple purposes, changing through different phase of their life? The idea of a preordained purpose waiting to be discovered feels somewhat romanticized to me, making me skeptical of the concept. I feel that the notion of a grand purpose might stem from an inability to justify the inherent value of one’s existence without it.

That said, for some time now, I’ve considered sharing my personal vision through music as my purpose—not with the primary aim of creating a large impact, but as a means of personal expression. If it resonates with others, that’s a welcome bonus. Music, to me, conveys emotions and information beyond what written words or conversations can express. It offers a heightened experience, allowing listeners to project their own feelings and interpretations onto it, much like I did growing up.

Creating music feels essential; it articulates thoughts and emotions I struggle to express otherwise, organizing them into coherent experiences. Without it, I often feel restless, and even self-destructive. Perhaps it’s become my purpose because it’s a necessity for my inner stability. Honestly, I hesitate to use the term “music” due to its broad connotations. I prefer to think of it as “my music,” a personal entity distinct from the wider concept.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Right now, I’m focused on completing several long-form projects. My priority is to stay immersed in my personal creative process—free from outside influence or distraction. I’m intentionally protecting the work until it’s fully formed, because I believe certain things need to be nurtured in private before they’re ready to be shared.

My creations aren’t crafted with the primary aim of resonating or being special for a broad audience. Instead, I prioritize my own personal sense of integrity, ensuring that each piece feels profound and meaningful to me. Often, my work explores mental and psychological themes, sometimes emerging from deep reflection, other times flowing effortlessly, as if the work unveils itself.

While I prefer not to disclose the overarching theme of my work at this stage, I can share that it’s a narrative I’ve fully conceptualized. I’m committed to allowing it to unfold organically, ensuring that when it’s eventually shared, it resonates with the full integrity of what I’ve envisioned.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Reflecting on my journey, while I don’t position myself as an authority to give advice, I can share the elements that have been most impactful in my own artistic development:

Engaging in Playful Exploration
In the early stages, I dedicated time each day to experimenting within my Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Treating this process as a form of play, rather than a task, made it more enjoyable and allowed me to develop a unique creative workflow. This consistent practice helped maintain a steady flow of creativity. Once I felt more comfortable, I sought out external resources to achieve specific goals, but the foundation was built through daily, uninhibited exploration.

Developing a Cohesive Project Structure
Creating a unified and complete project involves several stages. Initially, I allow ideas to flow freely without judgment. From there, I select the concepts that resonate most deeply and expand upon them until they feel complete. The final phase involves technical refinement to ensure the project is polished. This structured approach helps in transforming raw ideas into cohesive works.

Cultivating Personal Meaning
Understanding myself has been crucial in creating work that feels authentic. By reflecting on the experiences and factors that have shaped me, I can infuse my work with depth and perspective. This self-awareness not only reinforces the creative process but also ensures that the art remains a true extension of my personal narrative.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

Lately, I’ve been grappling with perfectionism, procrastination, and creative blocks. These challenges often intertwine, creating a cycle where the fear of producing anything less than perfect leads to delays and creative stagnation.

To combat perfectionism and procrastination, I’ve adopted a structured approach. I allocate specific time blocks dedicated solely to exploration and creation, during which I suspend self-criticism. Only after this phase do I switch to an evaluative mindset to refine the work. This separation helps in maintaining creative momentum without the immediate pressure of perfection.

Addressing creative blocks, I recently took a break from my usual environment by traveling. Although stepping away from music initially caused some anxiety, the change in scenery provided a mental reset, alleviating hyper-focus and reigniting creativity. Since returning, incorporating longer or multiple daily walks has become a practice to clear my mind and open up my perspective.
