Meet Steeven Petitteville

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Steeven Petitteville a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Steeven, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

As far as I can remember I have been looking at the world from the outside.
I mostly feels like an observer, a quiet candide one.
This feeling often gives this sense of “everything can happen” without a rush or constrain in time.
I see it as optimism.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a cinematographer also known as director of photography.
Means I am in charge of creating the visuals of a movie, or serie…I think it is the best job you can do on a set (creating lighting, camera moves and build the director’s vision with technical solutions is a thrill).
What I love about it, is it never stops evolving. technically, artistically and intelectually.
You always learn something on each new project.
I am actually prepping a serie shooting next winter in spain which I am very excited about,
We are working with the director on how we will achieve our look, and shots.
It is always amazing to see a story becoming alive and exciting to find the best way to serve, and enhance it.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The most important skills and qualities I am thinking of are
– Psychology. In the sense of understanding people, trying as much as possible to get yourself in someone else position and think out of the box. This teached me how sometimes problems are easy to solve when you look from the other side.
– Sharing. As much as possible, informations, feelings, tips…It’s the best communication feed and when you can communicate you can create.
Either with the help of others or for yourself.
We, as humans, are meant to communicate, it is in our DNA. One of our “super powers” so we better use it.
– And Respect I think can be mentioned as well. I think it is always possible in every situations to stay respectful of what’s around.
It takes efforts sometimes and reflection but it is very rewarding.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am always thinking of new visuals and experimentations., and love portraits too.
So if your readers have crazy project (in music, clothes, electronic, engeneering, dance….) and want to share their passion they can MP me on instagram (@steeevendop) or thru my website (steevenp.com)
