We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stefani Faye a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stefani, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I developed my confidence and self-esteem by doing the exact thing that once scared me, stepping outside of my comfort zone and into the unknown. It started during a painful chapter of my life, navigating a divorce and trying to rediscover who I was outside of that relationship. I turned to the outdoors as a form of healing, and each solo hike, paddleboarding session, or road trip became a moment of proof that I was capable, strong, and resilient. Over time, I stopped waiting for permission or validation and started trusting myself. Confidence didn’t come all at once, it was built one adventure at a time, by showing up, trying new things, and learning to embrace both the messy and the magical parts of the journey. The more I invested in myself, the more I believed in my worth, and now I help other women do the same through She Roams Retreats.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m the founder of She Roams Retreats, an adventure-based travel company and community designed to empower women through curated outdoor experiences. What makes our work so special is that it’s not just about travel, it’s about transformation. Every retreat, whether it’s a weekend escape in Arizona or a once-in-a-lifetime international trip, is designed to help women connect with themselves, nature, and a supportive sisterhood.
What excites me most right now is our upcoming membership program, launching soon! This will be a community-driven space hosted within an app where women can connect, join group adventures, access personal growth tools, and find their next hiking buddy or paddleboarding partner. It’s all about getting outdoors together, forming real connections, and continuing the magic of our retreats year-round.
We also continue to offer monthly free events like hikes, paddles, and meetups, because we believe in giving women a chance to dip their toes into adventure before diving all in. And, you can now find us at local markets, selling adventure-themed t-shirts, hats, fanny packs, and more.
At the heart of it all, She Roams is about building a life you love, one step, one adventure, one friendship at a time.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three qualities that had the biggest impact on my journey were resilience, vision, and community-building.
Resilience helped me move forward during some of the hardest moments in my life. It taught me how to pick myself back up, reimagine my future, and keep going even when the path was uncertain. My advice? Lean into discomfort. Growth happens when we’re stretched, and resilience is built by doing hard things, one step at a time.
Vision allowed me to dream beyond my circumstances. I didn’t just want to heal, I wanted to build something that empowered others, too. Developing your vision starts by getting clear on what lights you up. Ask yourself what problems you care about solving or what experiences have transformed you and build from there.
And finally, community-building is at the heart of everything I do. She Roams wouldn’t exist without the powerful, supportive women who show up for each other. If you’re just starting out, focus on creating authentic relationships, the kind rooted in trust, shared values, and genuine connection. That community will carry you further than you can imagine.
Most importantly, give yourself grace, stay curious, and keep showing up, even when it’s messy. That’s where the magic happens.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
One book that played a surprisingly important role in my personal and professional development was How to Talk to Anyone: 92 Little Tricks for Big Success in Relationships by Leil Lowndes. As someone who leads group retreats and creates spaces for connection, learning how to genuinely connect with people from all walks of life has been essential and this book gave me simple, practical tools to do just that.
One of the biggest nuggets of wisdom I took away was the idea that being genuinely interested in others is far more powerful than being interesting yourself. People remember how you made them feel, not just what you said. Another favorite takeaway was the concept of the “Big Baby Pivot,” which teaches you how to shift your body and energy to fully focus on the person in front of you, showing people they matter without saying a word.
These little tricks helped me build deeper, more meaningful connections, not only with the women who attend She Roams Retreats, but also with vendors, partners, and supporters of the mission. At the end of the day, relationships are at the heart of everything we do, and this book gave me the confidence and tools to show up with authenticity, warmth, and presence.
