We recently connected with Stefano Langone and have shared our conversation below.
Stefano, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I don’t think I realized how resilient I was until serious life threatening events occured in my life. But, for me and my life, I guess that’s what it took. I know I can get through any obstacle because of what I’ve already overcome. And it’s a relative trait. I don’t think you have to go through the worst humanly possible experiences to see what you’re made of. I was always taught the reaction to a situation is always more important that the situation itself.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m Stefano, a professional musician, vocalist, and performer with over 15 years of experience. My journey has been quite eclectic, from being a Top 10 finalist on American Idol to touring with legendary artists like Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds. Music has always been at the heart of who I am, but more than just the notes, I focus on storytelling and connection—both in my performance and in my teaching.
Currently, I’m working on a few exciting projects. The main one being my upcoming album, That’s Just How I Feel, where I’m blending my love for classic soul with a modern twist. I describe the aesthetic of the project as ‘soulful Sinatra,’ combining the elegance and timeless sound with my unique voice and emotional depth.
A particularly exciting development is an exclusive showcase at Soho Works, where I’ll be performing songs from the new album to some of the industries elite. The event will bring a vintage, Rat Pack vibe—cocktail attire, storytelling, and a deeply immersive experience for those attending.
Beyond my personal projects, I’m focused on giving back through teaching. I offer vocal lessons where I help other singers refine their craft. The practice is a blend of classical training and pop interpretation. At the end of the day, I want my students to connect and communicate. To me, the most important parts of what makes a great performance.
It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I’m always evolving—whether it’s through new music, collaborations, or finding new ways to connect with people. I’m excited about what the future holds, both for myself and for the people I’m able to reach through my art.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Hmm, three qualities? I guess I would say first and foremost. Don’t be afraid of failure. I think a lot of us get so hung up on the overall outcome of things we forget about the process and the journey. There is no such thing as failure if you look at every situation as a learning experience. You’ll always get something positive out of it.
Secondly I’d say “KNOW WHAT YOU WANT!” Too many people are out here just floating around. If you know what you want you can start creating goals to get there. This knowledge is so valuable but it’s also responsibility.
Finally, I’d say find that one thing you’re good at. It can be ANYTHING! A quality in yourself that makes you happy counts. What you enjoy. What you like to talk about. It doesn’t have to be a craft. It can literally be anything. Once you know what that is. Double down on it. Make it an obsession. Find ways to get better at said quality or craft. Find ways to influence and inspire through that quality. You’ll find it so much easier to share what you love.
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
No one’s getting a check in the mail for being good at everything. Now, with that being said, I do think it’s very important to know what your weaknesses are, in whatever area of work or passion you have. Knowing what those weaknesses are and working on them only makes you better in your line of work or lane. But your strengths, to me, is what makes you stick out from the crowd. Having a strength is a gift. If you have a strength in something, double down! Let your strengths carry you to where you need to go!
