Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Steffenie Jenkins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Steffenie, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
Being a mom is the source of my optimism. My boys have given me the strength and determination to be positive and do everything I can for them to show them the most love possible. I was a single mom with my oldest son during my pregnancy and the first year of his life, and that experience taught me invaluable lessons. Just looking at my son now, who’s 25, I remember how he looked to me for care and unconditional love. I went to school full-time that first year of his life to improve our lives. After that, it was just him and me, and then we met my youngest son’s father, who took on my oldest as his own. I have some health issues with autoimmune disease and other things, so we decided it would be best for me to stay at home and try to earn some income through side jobs instead of working full-time. I’m so grateful for being a stay-at-home mom, even though it’s the most rewarding and challenging job of all. Stay-at-home moms definitely don’t get enough credit, which is a shame. I also was a learning coach for my sons throughout their school years, so I was very involved and hands-on. I decided to start SteffsSimplicities because it brought so much joy to me during all the ups and downs and struggles, and I wanted to share it with others. SteffsSimplicities is a big part of me and my heart, especially now that my sons are grown. My optimism comes from being a mom, and it’s gotten me through all the difficult moments and the ones I still have to come.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hello there! I’m the proud owner of SteffsSimplicities. You see, candles have always held a special place in my heart. They’ve been my go-to source of comfort and a sense of home, no matter where I am. Life has thrown its fair share of challenges at me, especially when dealing with anxiety and autoimmune issues. But I’ve always been on the lookout for natural ways to find peace and grounding. One of the most powerful practices I discovered was meditative candle gazing. Candles are like little magic potions in a jar! By focusing on the flickering flame and the pleasant scent, I was able to calm my mind and let go of my worries. It was a game-changer! Candles aren’t just pretty decorations, you know. They’re like little pieces of tranquility and warmth that can transport you back to happy memories. And guess what? You can bring that cozy feeling right into your own home, wherever you may be. That’s how SteffsSimplicities came to be. I take great pride in crafting each candle with love and care. When you buy one of my candles or wax melts, you’re not just getting a product; you’re getting a piece of my heart and a little bit of tranquility. So, take a deep breath, light a candle, and let the magic begin, and don’t forget our motto to “Live Enlightened!” I also want to give people a flame-free option, so we just launched our wax melts, which is super exciting. I’m a small business, but the quality and love of each product are real. Why waste your hard-earned money on cheap, mass-produced candles when you can have real quality that’s also eco-friendly? Let me tell you, I wish we had a Willie Wonka Smell a Vision so I could have people smell how amazing my candles and wax melts really are. They are beyond amazing! One small candle can fill your living room with incredible smells. I hope to have people give my candles a try and I do believe they will keep coming back for more. There’s something special about individually hand-poured candles, especially if you love doing it with your heart and soul like I do. I really feel you can get that when you light a candle or use a wax melt.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Here are three areas of knowledge that have had a big impact on me: inner strength, optimism, and failure. Inner strength is the ability to keep going even when things get tough, both physically and emotionally, and never lose faith in yourself. Optimism is knowing that my candles are amazing, even though there are many other companies out there, both big and small. My candles are unique and have a lot of potential, and I believe in their worth. Failure is a part of life, but it’s important to keep trying and not give up. Just because we might fail here and there doesn’t mean we’ll never succeed. We just have to keep going and eventually we’ll achieve our goals. Even if it’s just a small success, it’s still a success. I’m not a big company, I’m just one person who loves what she does and wants to share that passion with others. I may not be able to reach everyone, but I can do my best and hope for the best.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
One of the biggest challenges I’m facing is being a small company and trying to reach out to more and more people. I want my candles and wax melts to be a part of everyone’s living spaces, whether it’s a dorm room, an apartment, a house, or even just a bedroom that’s your own special sanctuary. I believe that my products can bring people joy and love, and I’m determined to make that happen. I know that getting out there and spreading the word can be tough for small companies, but I’m determined to overcome that obstacle. It’s hard when you’re not a big name brand or have lots of advertising and backing, but I’m definitely doing my best and won’t give up.
