Meet Steph Spiegel

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Steph Spiegel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Steph below.

Steph, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

The self-doubt of imposter syndrome is a sneaky bitch that never really leaves me. It’s human. It’s primitive. It makes sense. I have to consciously remind myself that even though I can’t always control every doubt that creeps in, I can choose how I respond. We designers have a keen eye for spotting every imperfection in our own work, but true artistry emerges only by recognizing that the first step to mastering something is to faceplant spectacularly at it. By choosing inspiration over intimidation, I’m celebrating the diversity of others’ creative chaos while simulanteously celebrating my own efforts, even if it’s just a stepping stone to something greater.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a small business brand & website designer who uses research to back my designs. I firmly believe that your vibe attracts your tribe. What good is it to describe your dream client if you are just going to write website copy like a term paper? Your brand voice deserves better than unemotional, transactional droning on. I help people create brands and websites that truly reflect who they are, making it easy to connect with their dream clients. I’m all about blending smart strategy with bold, unapologetic style for those wild-hearted small business creatives.

I tailor everything to your ideal client—the one who made taking the leap into small business totally worth it. It’s like matchmaking for your brand, ensuring that it resonates with the right people who value the meaningful impact you’re making in the world. Honestly, I used to believe I didn’t have a single creative bone in my body. I was stuck in the corporate “hustle” culture, barely hanging on, until I realized I didn’t want to spend 80,000 hours of my life cosplaying a finance bro. I wanted to mix my love for logic puzzles and pretty things into something meaningful that made a difference.

I transform brands and websites with purpose. I’ve found my groove, and I’m here to help you find yours too. I’m passionate about empowering creative rebels, corporate misfits, and chaotic adventurers who’ve conformed long enough. When you work with me, you’re not just getting a designer; you’re getting an ally who understands your journey and the incredible impact you’re making.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Authenticity: Staying true to myself and my values has been crucial. It’s about creating work that resonates with who you are and what you stand for. For those starting out, focus on understanding your core values and let them guide your decisions. Authenticity attracts the right clients and opportunities. Again, your vibe attracts your tribe.

Adaptability: The ability to pivot and embrace change has been essential to my personal and professional growth. I’m the wife of a Marine officer, which means any plans I make are null and void before I can even suggest them. The tech landscape is always evolving, and being open to learning and adapting will keep you relevant. My advice is to stay curious and never stop learning. Embrace new tools, trends, and ideas with an open mind.

Empathy: Understanding and connecting with clients on a deeper level has made a significant difference. It’s about seeing the world through their eyes and crafting solutions that truly meet their needs. To develop this, practice active listening and put yourself in your clients’ shoes. Building genuine relationships leads to meaningful work and a deeper impact.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

Anyone who knows me knows I read like the world is ending tomorrow, and I have to make it through all the books beforehand. I do love fiction novels, and I tend to get more meaning from them than self-help or business books with no plot. Although I could list tons of books that have impacted me, one of my favorites is T.J. Klune’s “Under the Whispering Door:”

“Everyone loses their way at some point, and it’s not just because of their mistakes or the decisions they make. It’s because they’re horribly, wonderfully human. And the one thing I’ve learned about being human is that we can’t do this alone. When we’re lost, we need help to try to find our way again.”
