Meet Stephan Walters

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephan Walters a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Stephan with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I get my resilience from my parents. Both immigrants from the Caribbean; my mother is Antiguan and my father is Jamaican. They came to this country with little more than each other and built a life from the ground up. Growing up, I watched them work tirelessly to provide for me and my sister, never once complaining or showing the weight they carried.

Their quiet strength and determination shaped my own work ethic. I’ve always been the type to roll up my sleeves and give my all, because that’s the example they set every day.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m the founder and creator of Streets; a social events platform built for curators, vendors, DJs, and the people who love them. Streets isn’t just about discovering events; it’s about powering the entire experience, from event discovery to ticket sales, communication, and community-building. What makes Streets special is that it’s more than just a platform; it’s a tool that helps people connect, engage, and transact in real time before, during, and after the event.

Because I’m both the founder and the person who wrote every single line of code, Streets is community-built in the truest sense. I work directly with the curators on the platform, listening closely to their feedback to build the features they need, not just what they think they want. That difference matters. It means the product is grounded in real-world use, and built for sustainability and growth.

We launched in Washington, DC in 2024 and quickly expanded into Georgia. As of June 2025, we’re now live in five more states: Texas, Florida, North Carolina, New York, and California. This year, our focus is scale, making sure more communities get access to the tools Streets offers, and supporting the next generation of curators and culture-makers.

One thing I’m especially proud of: Streets offers zero fees for curators who sell tickets online. It’s our way of removing friction and supporting the people who keep local culture alive, while keeping the barrier to entry as low as possible.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Problem-solving:
I’ve always been someone who enjoys solving challenges; whether technical, strategic, or creative. That mindset has helped me approach obstacles with curiosity rather than frustration, and it’s pushed me to constantly seek better solutions, even when things get tough.

2. Expertise in mobile development:
My background in mobile development has been a game-changer. It’s not just about writing code; it’s about building intuitive, user-centered experiences. Working in environments that prioritized user experience taught me how to blend technical skill with design thinking to create products that truly resonate with people.

3. The ability to listen:
I take pride in being someone who accepts constructive criticism with an open mind. If the feedback is honest and well-intentioned, I see it as a gift. Listening; and i mean really listening has helped me grow as a developer, a founder, and a leader.

My advice for those early in their journey:
• Be willing to learn from feedback, especially from people you trust and respect. It’s one of the fastest paths to growth.
• Try new things until you find what truly excites you and once you do, focus on building depth, not just breadth. Mastery comes from commitment, not dabbling.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

My ideal client is someone who genuinely cares about the community they serve. They’re not just throwing events; they’re building experiences with intention. They want to make an impact, provide real value, and ensure their guests have the best experience possible without unnecessary spending.

I work best with curators who are financially conscious; both for themselves and their customers, and who are open to adapting based on feedback. The ones who listen, evolve, and strive to do things differently stand out. I’m not drawn to those who are just in it for the money or doing the same rinse-and-repeat events. I’m here to support creators who care, innovate, and lead with purpose.
