We recently connected with Stéphane Lo Jacomo and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Stéphane, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Realizing that impostor syndrome is very common has been crucial in overcoming it. It often arises when I’m working outside of my comfort zone, and I’ve learned to take it as a sign that I am challenging myself and reaching for my goals. This perspective helps me view impostor syndrome as a natural byproduct of growth and pushing my limits. By reframing what impostor syndrome means, I have found it much easier to manage. It’s important to recognize that it’s impossible to completely avoid these feelings, as most people experience them at some point in their lives. With time, practice, and experience, these feelings tend to diminish, so there is no need to judge them too harshly.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m originally from France and have been living in the US for almost 10 years now. I’ve been working in the music industry full-time since college, balancing my artist project, Fytch, with production work for other artists and clients. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I pivoted to composing music for TV shows, which challenged me to explore new musical genres and significantly expand my repertoire.
The pandemic also forced me to take a break from live performances, but I’m thrilled to be back on stage. I recently played a beach rave organized by Midnight Society and am planning more performances throughout the summer. I just released the final track of my latest EP, “Until It’s Over.” The EP is especially important to me as it marks my first release after a long time away from Fytch.
What’s particularly exciting about my artist project is its unique blend of musical influences, making it difficult to categorize into a specific genre. My music draws from alternative rock, especially in its mood and use of guitars, but also incorporates many electronic elements and impactful drops. I love combining different musical genres, which keeps my releases fresh and surprising for my listeners. Over the years, I’ve ventured in many different directions while maintaining a signature sound. This freedom from genre constraints and trends is incredibly liberating.
Another aspect I cherish about my work is the independence I have by releasing music through Create Music Group. This allows me to have complete creative control and explore music freely. Balancing Fytch with client work also alleviates financial pressure, enabling me to create without the stress of relying on my artist project for income. This balance allows me to stay true to my artistic vision and passion.
A big goal throughout my career has been to help other artists diversify their work so they can remain independent and retain ownership of their music. I strive to help other music producers build their brand; empowering a resilient community of artists has always been the wider purpose of my work.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three qualities have been particularly impactful in my journey: resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning.
The music industry is full of ups and downs, and resilience has been crucial in navigating the inevitable setbacks. There have been times when projects didn’t go as planned or opportunities fell through, but maintaining a resilient mindset allowed me to keep pushing forward. Setbacks are temporary and often lead to new and better opportunities. Building resilience means staying persistent, maintaining a positive attitude, and not being afraid to take risks.
The ability to adapt to changing circumstances has been essential, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when live performances were no longer possible. Pivoting to composing music for TV shows required me to learn new skills and expand my musical repertoire. The music industry is constantly evolving, and being adaptable allowed me to seize new opportunities and keep moving forward.
The pursuit of knowledge and improvement has been a driving force in my career. Whether it’s mastering new production software, studying different musical genres, or learning about the business side of the industry, continuous learning has kept my work innovative and competitive. The more knowledgeable and skilled you become, the more valuable you will be in the industry.
I couldn’t have achieved any of this without the support of those around me. Surround yourself with inspiring individuals and don’t hesitate to seek guidance. Success in the music industry is a marathon, not a sprint, and having resilience, adaptability, and a passion for learning will undoubtedly pave your way forward.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
One book that has significantly shaped my development is “Steal Like an Artist” by Austin Kleon. This book emphasizes the importance of embracing influences openly and drawing inspiration from various sources to fuel creativity. In my work, especially in composing for TV and film, clients often require referencing and drawing inspiration from existing materials. Skillfully integrating these references while creating something new and unique is a crucial aspect of my creative process.
The book highlights creativity as an iterative process where consistent exploration and experimentation lead to new ideas and innovations. It encourages artists to take incremental steps towards creative expression rather than waiting for a eureka moment.
Kleon emphasizes the importance of community feedback and collaboration in refining and advancing creative endeavors, which has kept my ideas flowing and allowed me to navigate tasks smoothly without getting bogged down in the process.
