Meet Stephanie Herman

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephanie Herman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Stephanie, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I get bored if I am not adding creativity into my life. When I find myself dragging in life, I ask myself what’s missing. There are certain ingredients that make me happy- staying in shape by working out in Pilates and Ballet, going out and having fun, with friends, entertaining, making my house lovely, watching good movies and being creative.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At the young age of 72, I am developing more always. Building upon what I have already generated throughout my career taking time to stand still while still growing. As a former Principal Ballerina I have learned so much about the body. I am using that knowledge with my 40 year background as a 2nd generation Pilates Master to help heal others through my (sh)-Pilates Ballet Wellness Program for non dancers and dancers.. It gives me such pleasure to heal all ages from 16-90 year olds. That is my day job. My creative side has just finished writing my Memoir as I search for a literary agent. I stay active with producing my 12 year award winning The Stephanie Herman Show. I enjoy also performing my choreographic dances on the show and am working on the next dance as we speak.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1- staying true to myself- follow my gut
2- not to allow fear to stop me
3- owning my talent even if I don’t believe in it

I feel I have learned a lot from disappointments. Asking myself “why” I didn’t get what I wanted? What was I doing wrong? Or sometimes it had nothing to do with my efforts but understanding the full picture. In my life I have leaned on my gut telling me what direction to go.. But, when things didn’t manifest I had to get more creative in my thinking. How can I get what I want? If I wanted to dance but I was too old, well why not just choreograph a dance where I look good and produce a one woman show- Ballerina A One Woman Show (Sh)- which was filmed and performed live at the age of 67, which received 8 film festival awards

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Because of the huge success of the 8 film festival awards I received from my

“Ballerina A one Woman Play”, I decided to write my Memoir- “SOAR, How I Danced Through the World of Ballet, Balanchine, and Beyond “ I am looking for an agent or publisher to help publish this book. My dream writing it was turning it into a movie or Mini series. It would be fabulous to collaborate with an agent to help me share my talents with more of the world – I feel at 72. I am a motivation for all ages. I’d love to do Ted Talks too..
