We were lucky to catch up with Stéphanie Karam recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stéphanie , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Mediumship isn’t a one-sided exchange—it’s a shared experience of trust, and that trust begins with me showing up fully, without fear or hesitation. When we focus on our insecurities, we make everything about ourselves. Some may mistake insecurity for humbleness, but they are very different things. True connection—especially in mediumship and spirit work—is never about me. It’s about what we can experience when we come together in a space of love and compassion.
Every reading, every message, every spirit portrait is an opportunity to explore something greater than ourselves. An invitation to discovery of what is possible through playful curiosity. When we get caught up in self doubt, we rob others of their own moments. We take away from the magic of what could unfold simply because we are too focused on ourselves.
When we realize that we are simply here to have experiences together, our fears dissipate. The focus is not on proving ourselves, but on what joy, love, or transformation we can inspire within one another. Mediumship, like life, is not about performance—it is about connection. And when we focus on that, confidence comes naturally.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a psychic medium and spirit artist. I spent half of my life in São Paulo, Brazil, and the other half in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Growing up I spent most of my days surrounded by animals at my grandma’s sanctuary. Cats, dogs, horses, tortoises, parrots, a toucan, and even a monkey. This deep soul-level bond with animals and the connection we all share has been the foundation of my spiritual work.
I conduct my readings with a holistic approach—honoring the interconnectedness of all things, with an emphasis on evidential and verifiable information. Through combining mediumship, psychic work, animal communication, and spirit art I provide both practical guidance and deep spiritual connections. Ultimately, my goal is for every client to remember their own light, and how connected they truly are to everything around them.
In addition to evidential mediumship, life & animal readings, one of my greatest passions is creating channeled portraits of spirit guides and loved ones in spirit. It has been an incredible way to help people connect with their loved ones on the other side and gain clarity from their spirit mentors and guides.
The spirit portraits are created with no prior knowledge of the spirit or the recipient, and without ever seeing any photographs. The photographs are provided only after the recipient recognizes their loved one through the channeled portrait and information. The spirit world works through all my senses to bring their artistic expression to life.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Trusting the flow of what opportunities are brought to you, and what is removed from you.
My journey never started with a fixed path. I simply followed my curiosity, stepping into whatever felt alive and expansive in the moment. I never forced anything to happen, yet doors opened in ways I could never have planned. At the same time, there were things I thought I wanted—things that didn’t work out—and I’ve come to understand that those moments of loss were just as important as the moments of gain. Every redirection, every unexpected turn, was leading me somewhere better, somewhere I was meant to be. If you’re at the beginning of your journey, trust what flows to you and trust what falls away. You are always being guided, even when it feels like you’re standing in the unknown.
2. Not holding onto any conviction or belief too tightly.
One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that certainty is an illusion. The more I thought I understood something, the more spirit would show me a new layer, a deeper truth. Mediumship and psychic work is not about collecting answers—it’s about staying open to the unfolding mystery. If you’re just starting out, don’t chase certainty. Don’t look for rules to define your experience. Instead, approach everything with the willingness to be surprised. Let yourself change, let yourself evolve, and never be afraid to question what you once thought was true.
3. Approaching everything from a place of curiosity and joy—not needing to prove anything to yourself or anyone else.
True connection with spirit, and with others, doesn’t happen when we are trying to impress or validate ourselves. It happens when we are fully present, when we surrender to the experience without expectation. Some of my most profound readings, the moments that left me in awe, happened when I let go of needing to “get it right” and was willing to just explore. If you’re beginning this journey, don’t make it a test. Don’t put pressure on yourself to be perfect. Instead, ask yourself: if this is possible, what else is possible? Let it be an adventure. Let it be something you play with, something that brings you joy.
If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that we are not here to figure it all out. We are here to experience, to expand, to walk the path that unfolds before us, one step at a time. The more we trust, the more we allow ourselves to be shaped by what is meant for us. And in that surrender, we find everything we didn’t know we were looking for.
What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I believe that while it’s important to embrace and refine our strengths, we absolutely need to lean into the areas where we feel fear or resistance. What stands between who we are and who we want to be is often the very thing we are afraid to do. If something aligns with our soul’s path, our calling or our goals, but we avoid it because we think we aren’t good at it, that’s exactly where we need to focus our energy.
The truth is, fear is often a sign that something matters deeply to us. It’s an invitation to grow. By working through our weaknesses—not to “fix” them, but to break the illusion that they are barriers—we step into the fullest version of ourselves. The more we stretch beyond our perceived limits, the more we realize those limits were never real to begin with.
So, rather than asking if we should focus on strengths or weaknesses, I think the real question is: What are we avoiding out of fear? Because that’s exactly where our greatest breakthroughs—and our true potential—are waiting.
When I first started my journey as a medium, I was terrified of sharing my experiences publicly. I knew deep down that mediumship and spirit art were my calling, yet I hesitated to put myself out there. I worried about judgment, about getting things wrong, about letting people down. For a while, I told myself I would just focus on what I was naturally comfortable with. But eventually, I realized that hiding in my comfort zone wasn’t serving me or anyone else. I had to face my fears and allow myself to be fully seen alongside all of my mistakes and imperfections.
Whether it was speaking in front of large groups, sharing my artwork publicly, or trusting spirit fully during a live reading, every time I pushed past one of those fears, I felt a new part of myself unlock. My work became stronger, more authentic and more impactful. And most importantly, through accepting and exposing my own vulnerabilities I was able to share beautiful moments of connection with people.
During a reading, we have to have the courage to express exactly what we are receiving from spirit, no matter how bizarre or random it may seem. If we hold back out of fear of being wrong, we limit the experience and prevent the full message from coming through.
I remember a recent reading where a grandfather in spirit kept showing me an image of his wife blowing out a birthday candle on a cake, followed by him stepping heavily on her foot. It was such a strange detail, and if this had happened when I was first starting, I might have hesitated to say it. I would have doubted myself, thinking, That’s too random. What if it doesn’t make sense? But I’ve learned that when we allow fear and doubt to control us, we take away from what we can experience with others.
I shared exactly what I was receiving. Immediately, the client started crying. She told me that not only was the day of the reading her grandma’s birthday, but during her last birthday—when her grandfather was still alive—he had accidentally stepped on her foot and broken it, just days before he passed. That small, seemingly insignificant detail became the most powerful piece of validation in the reading.
Moments like this remind me why we can’t let fear or our perceived weaknesses dictate our choices. If I had been too afraid to say it, I would have robbed that client of a beautiful, possibly life changing moment of connection. Our job, as with everything in life, is to trust, let go, and surrender. Because when we do, we create space for the magic, the healing, and the transformation that is always available to us at every moment.
