Meet Stephanie & Mitchell Moulton

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stephanie & Mitchell Moulton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Stephanie & Mitchell, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
We’ve changed how we provide content. We originally started with a blog providing detailed itineraries and tips while documenting our travels but eventually it felt more like work than a hobby. Recently, we began experimenting with videos and have really enjoyed the change.

Travel videos have always been a hobby of ours but took a backseat to our full time jobs and blog posts. Videos are a fun way to capture the vastness of a place opposed to photos and written descriptions. We went back to our roots and think it’s been pretty successful!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
We are a couple that loves experiencing new cultures, seeing new landscapes, and tasting new cuisines. We started our travel blog, The Traveling Gingerbread, in October 2017 as a way to easily share our travels with family and friends. Over time, it’s grown into a place to share with the world tips on traveling to the fullest, fun facts, short itineraries, and where to find the best craft beer. We have some exciting news to share since our last feature. We recently quit our full time office jobs after being with our employers 10 years and began an adventure around the world. We’ve been working towards this goal for several years and about a month ago it finally became realilty. We want to take this time to learn, experience, and enjoy life to the fullest. We will will continue experimenting with the best way to deliver our new content. If we can quit our jobs to travel the world, you can to!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
It’s very important to be open to learning new things and seeing from new perspectives. We felt very confident in our initial approach to our blog, but after a few months realized we had a lot to learn. We’ve reformatted, rewritten, and redesigned. One thing that’s constant is letting our audience decide what’s best for them, not us.

Being part of a team, it’s important to share responsibilities. We identified our strengths and take ownership of tasks that are the best fit, but we both continue learning new skills from each other and outside sources to become more knowledgeable. Since we recently shifted our focus to videos, Mitch has been helping Stephanie improve her video editing skills. In addition to teaching and learning we’re adding new perspectives.

Get out there! We learned about traveling by traveling. Reading, watching, and listening are great ways to learn but immersing yourself in doing what you love will teach you knowledge that can’t be learned in a classroom. Step out of your comfort zone. If cooking is your passion take a cooking class, learn from recipes passed down through generations, step out of your comfort zone, and try a new cuisine. You can follow a recipe and make a good meal, but a great recipe will have your own twist. Experiment with new flavors and learn from those around you. It all starts outside of the cookbook.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
We love using Viator and Trip Advisor when we travel. It’s easy to compare cost and itineraries from local tour companies, and simple to reschedule or cancel (many up to 24 hours before). We would love to partner with a marketplace for tours and experiences. We have had some incredible tours and love sharing with family and friends.

It also would be great to collaborate with other travel bloggers. One of our weaknesses is being in our photos and videos. We rarely capture ourselves in our content and focus more on landscapes or stock photos. The Two Wandering Soles and Christian Grossi are great at creating fun and informative social media content and getting in front of the camera.
