Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stephanie Owens. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Stephanie with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Without question, I developed my work ethic from my mother. I can’t think of a time throughout my childhood where she wasn’t working multiple jobs in order to provide for our whole family. I never once heard her complain. She took pride in everything she did and anything that needed to get done, she had no problem rolling up her sleeves to do it. If she didn’t know how, then she would learn. I was led to operate in a similar way just by watching how hard she worked and how she valued doing everything to the best of her ability.
Whether it was starting a business, doing her own taxes, or buying a home in her twenties and installing every fixture herself, my mother could and still can do it all. She has been an inspiration for as long as I can remember. I was led to operate in a similar way just by watching how hard she worked and how she valued doing each thing to the best of her ability.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Funny enough, I never considered myself to be an entrepreneur. Though I had a creative mind and enjoyed learning new things, I was quite comfortable in my day to day corporate life. Two years ago, I got out of my comfort zone and decided to start a publishing company, in order to publish my own children’s series for early readers. It was a passion I’d had for over 10 years at the time; yet, didn’t have the confidence to pursue. I have now published two books from that series, with the second releasing this October. I want this series to inspire and excite little ones as they prepare to face life’s changes. The series focuses on first time milestones children experience as they grow and experience the world.
Additionally, two years ago I embarked upon my biggest venture to date. I became the co-founder of a canned wine brand that launched this month. South Central Wine is a Black and woman owned and operated wine brand rooted in Black history and culture. I, along with my team, aspire to invest in Black communities through job creation, education, and community building. I’m really excited about what’s to come and the impact we hope to have with this business.
