We recently connected with Stephanie Swift and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
In the spirit of living a life full of creative energy, I’ve been blessed to say that in my case, “Art imitates life”. I’ve always fostered a spirit of musicality and being a visual learner, incorporated theatre, singing and literary texts into my creative process.
As a young woman, my propensity to entertain complete strangers in the retail stores in and around my hometown of Butler, PA led to my “All the World’s a Stage” approach. My artistic abilities stemmed from my parents; my father being an English teacher or the occasional DJ at the local dance halls and my mother being a very talented interior decorator with a nice singing voice. I continued exploring my own creative personality by trying out a variety of mediums- singing, dancing, theatre, playing the violin, studying French. Tragically, my sister passed away last year and I realized she was my role model when it came to living a purposeful life full of laugher and love. She was my inspiration when it came to mastering the English literature and her command of the language and public speaking were unrivaled. She was the epitome of God-given, natural gifts being put to use in her career and anyone that met her would agree. She had a fantastic voice and wherever she graced a karaoke stage, she never ceased to garner a true standing ovation! Her creative spirit will remain with me and I find myself using that for my inspiration.
I can’t forgot the importance of spirituality and growing up in the Catholic faith as influences because I just recently realized that God does have a real purpose for my life! I’m an actor, singer, director, realtor, educator and lover of nature. Perhaps the person that most keeps my creativity alive is my husband and kindred creative soul. We are performers and are truly blessed to work together on and off the stage. He constantly challenges me to go outside my comfort zone and we continue to learn and grow as artists and as a couple. My final point is that creativity does come from within us, but to take risks and keep an open mind, we can continually evolve as artists. Let’s collaborate and make the World a more beautiful and loving place. Reach for the stars and try and be better every day- and I will do the same.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My brand is my name; I’m the official Stephanie Swift- not related to Taylor Swift- or at least not to my knowledge. I’m a Realtor with Howard Hanna. A Board Member and Chair of Education for Women in Film and Media Pittsburgh. I’m an actress in film and theatre and my filmography can be found at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm9322895/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
I can be found on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephanie-swift-20647b13?utm_source=share&utm_campaign=share_via&utm_content=profile&utm_medium=ios_app
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Resiliency, adaptability and diversification. I believe any setback I’ve encountered and how I’ve adapted has propelled my career towards creative endeavors. My resiliency and diverse skillset have allowed me to work alongside industry professionals. My advice to any artist just starting out is you do you! Decision-makers will recognize this and want to utilize your unique abilities. Stay true to yourself, stick with your morals and never settle for the mundane or give up on your dreams.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Definitely looking for folks to collaborate with in the film and theatre communities. I’ve already been fortunate to network with industry folks through Women in Film and Media. I’d like to expand our reach to performers and film professionals from outside markets and the “Little Hollywood of East” or Pittsburgh Region brings in big-scale productions.
