We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephanie Vega a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Stephanie with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My ethics come from my roots. I come from hard working people and have always been surrounded by hard working people. I have grown up watching my parents working there tails off to provide for our family. My grandma working in the pharmacy till just recently. I remember going to my mom’s job and spending the day in the lunch areas. I also would spend the summers with my grandparents and spend days at the pharmacy with my grandma. I would stock shelves, price items and even checkout and bag for customers at a really young age. All to help.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Stephanie here…. Hospice caregiver by week day and tumbler crafter by weekend. I am able to bless people during the week to help them during the hardest times in their lives. Yes, sometimes things do get hard and that is when I pass the times by designing what help helps my heart. On my time off from helping people, I make my designs come to life. I typically have 1 to 4 markets each weekend and I sell the tumblers I make. That isn’t even the best part. When someone comes to my booth looks around and smiles. That smile leads to a story/core memory that usually gets shared. During the week I get to see and hear amazing memories of beautiful peoples life’s and my designs the inspire me from those beautiful, triggers beautiful memories from other people who they haven’t even met. I guess it is a way to spread a positive light through my day to day life.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Determination is huge. Putting my mind to something and making my dreams come true. I remember 6 years ago looking at a circut and saying I’m going to get one and not having the money for it yet. I put my mind to it and got it in time. I turned that want into a dream maker. It also lead to more wants to grow and actions that turned to dreams come true.
Love to not only love what I do but but to put love in everything I do. Everything is better with love in it. Your designs come out better, your work flow just flows, and so much just works.
The knowledgeable I will share is not everyone is on your side and that is ok. It is a place where you can learn and not run into the same brick walls. I have seen some ugly things from people trying to steal designs, to vendors trying to under cutting my prices. I look at these situations as a learning experiences and grow.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I love me a great list. I also live by an old school written planner. When I do get overwhelmed in the moment I do make myself stop and breathe. All because I personally can’t think clearly when I am overwhelmed. When I have multiple orders plus I have to get ready for a market; I live by my check off list. If it isn’t on my check off list it isn’t getting done. I can always add little by little but the best part is crossing things off the list. I know a lot of people love their digital calendars and planners but I truly ignore the alerts. When I right something down and cross it off I personally feel good about it, I also get less overwhelmed when I see completed tasks not just everything I need to complete. I also am a person that needs to vent. I don’t do well holding everything in. I vent to my fiancé Fred, my best friend Tiara, my siblings, my Friends/ family I have made at markets etc. I am someone who needs it off my heart and I’m ok after that.
