Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sterling Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sterling, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Born and raised in the heart of Reading, Pennsylvania, my upbringing was anything but conventional. With parents battling addiction and the looming struggles of street life, my path was often difficult. Yet, despite their flaws, my parents were filled with love, and I was surrounded by good-hearted people who saw more in me than my circumstances. Their support was the first lesson in resilience, teaching me how to rise above challenges and carve my own future.
The diverse friendships I made in the neighborhood were my lifeline—each friend from a different background, each story unique, all contributing to my understanding of the world. Local businesses offered me small jobs, allowing me to earn my way while learning the importance of hard work and determination. Their belief in me fueled my desire to push forward, and every obstacle became a steppingstone to something greater.
The adversity I faced didn’t just strengthen my will—it gave me empathy. Growing up with friends from all walks of life, I learned to embrace diversity, unity, and the power of human connection. Sharing meals, attending church together, being invited to family gatherings—these moments shaped my values and sparked my vision to build a business that mirrors the inclusive and compassionate community I grew up in.
By my teenage years, life took another twist when I entered the foster care system. Moving from one home to another, I experienced love in its many forms, expanding my understanding of family and the endless possibilities for a brighter future. These experiences taught me that challenges are not roadblocks; they are opportunities to grow, adapt, and become stronger.
Now, as a business owner, I channel that energy and passion into something greater than profit margins. My business is rooted in compassion, community, and a commitment to inclusivity—values shaped by my past but fueled by a vision for a better future.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
