We were lucky to catch up with Steve Garcia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Steve, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
My confidence comes from not being afraid of rejection and being prepared for the outcome of any situation. I may not have control of everything but I do control my reaction towards a situation.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a coffee shop owner who’s a barista at heart. Since I’ve opened the shop my need to be a barista has been overshadowed by the work of a businessman, rather than a barista. That’s why I say I’m a barista at heart.
I’m passionate about what I get myself involved with. A year ago we started a local run movement called “Just Move Coachella “ . It’s a community engagement movement that encourages people to just move and get be active but also using walking and running as a character builder to get you through any of life’s Challenges.
Through this I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to be a lululemon ambassador and I work closely with lululemon to help get our mission and goals out there for everyone in the community to join in on the fun.
As for sixth street coffee we’re excited that in 2025 we’ll be roasting our own beans . We currently outsource our beans from another coffee roaster but we’re excited to step in to the world of purchasing green coffee and roasting it ourselves.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Always have a contingency plan. Work as if there is not plan B but life happens so we must be ready for anything and be okay with the fact that sometimes things may not go as planned.
2. Don’t rush anything. Time tells you what is for you.
3. It’s okay to be selfish in the benefit of others. We can’t help anyone unless we’ve helped ourselves.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
“Principles” – By Ray Dalio
In the book Ray talks about being a hyperrealist. Often times we set our own dreams so big we can’t reach and we get discouraged when we can’t achieve them.
Like Ray I believe that it’s okay to dream big and reach for the stars but when we accept reality and truth, then we can fully reach our goal, purpose and the dream. Once reality is accepted our dream may look a little different but the purpose is far greater
