Meet Steven Alvarez

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Steven Alvarez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Steven, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

My creativity comes from my real life experiences and desires. I write my music for small films I have in my mind which I constantly have playing while I’m driving, cooking, or out walking with my daughter. Doing this, alongside listening to the artists that influence my sound, helps stay in a constant creative flow.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a music producer of over 15 years, having released music under the genres of Progressive House, Electro House, and Techno. All my music tells a story and each album is written as if it were the soundtrack to a movie in order to tell a cohesive tale that I see within my imagination. It’s something I’m very proud to do and is reflected in my album art and promotional work for each release, all done by my hands alone.

It’s all accumulated to a single point as on July 12, 2025, I’ll be hosting my first show as ‘Spiffy Man’ in my entire career. It’s a test run for a possible tour run in 2026 and I’ve gathered together some close producer and DJ friends of mine to perform on the lineup. The show is called “An Audionaut’s Odyssey” in reference to my musical journey through various genres throughout my career. The show will feature custom made visuals made by me, catered to each track to help tell their story. I’ll be playing fan favorite hits alongside a slew of new tracks from my upcoming Fall album ‘Ifs, Ands, & Buts’ as well. It’s pretty exciting and I hope anyone who is reading this can make their way to Riverside to see it!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I was very fortunate to be given the opportunity to take piano lessons starting at age 7, something I had continued to do up until I turned 18. Outside of that, my desire to want to entertain people with powerful stories and my love for creatively expressing my thoughts through visual and audio means have definitely made an impact through out my career.

To everyone just starting and are still fairly early into their own journeys I will say this; never stop experimenting. Trial and error were a big part of my career and I had a lot of failures. Don’t be discouraged by lack of support around you for what you do, I suffered through that at the beginning as well. But all it takes is one. One person to buy a CD, one person to send you a DM, one person to email you saying, “You’re work helped me through a dark patch in my life and I am forever grateful for what you do.” Seeing that is all the validation one needs because it let’s you know you had an effect on someone’s life for the better. That’s why I continued to do the work, for those who may need what I can make one day.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

My number one obstacle is getting bookings for shows anywhere across the country. As hard as I try, it seems that I lack the savvy necessary to get booked to perform at a simple show or a larger festival. It’s one of the main reasons why I decided to host my own show. People have asked throughout the years when I’d be touring, where I’d be performing, etc., and I could never give them an answer because I could never get a callback or reply from any venues or groups.

My hope is that, with this show, I’ll be able to show venues and people that I am worth having around to perform.
