Meet Stormy Tripp

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stormy Tripp. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Stormy, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My work ethic comes from watching my parents when I was growing up! Both of my parents were entrepreneurs and they each owned their own business. At first I didn’t really understand the want to have your own business since everything essentially falls on you in regards to responsibility. However as I grew older and as I watched their own businesses grow, I realized it was all about saying I built this, I built this business from nothing to a success. I was always told by them that working towards something is always one of the greatest feelings and will give you a sense of pride, knowing I did this, I made this.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

The Painting Joint is a fully mobile painting event company, where we bring the paint to you! We come to your home, office or event space and bring an entire painting party with us. We walk everyone through usually a 2-hour painting class and break each painting down into simple steps so all skills levels can create a masterpiece. Our company strives to make it a comfortable, judgement and stress free environment so everyone can enjoy painting without feeling like they’re being graded in a classroom. We have both public and private classes every month so you will never miss out on an opportunity to paint with us! All of our public events are held all around LA County and we go as far as Orange and Ventura County for private events.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think the three main skills that have mattered the most is the wanting to teach, the passion for art and the ability to make art fun! I went to an after school art class for 10 years and the teacher that I had there made me both passionate for learning different art techniques, but also made me want to teach others what I had learned. In college I made the decision to major in Art Education and that is where my teaching scope began. From there I knew I did not want to work in a classroom for the rest of my life, so I looked for teaching opportunities else where. I ended up working for a Paint n Sip franchise for about 5 1/2 years and I loved every minute of it.

Being able to teach someone who has never painted before and then having them leave the class feeling empowered and excited makes it all worth while for me. I feel some people have a negative connotation with art because of experiences in school and I am determined to change that! No one gets graded in my classes, no one gets reprimanded for not following instructions, it’s just all about the fun!

For those just starting out, it’s all about patience and the passion for it. If you’re not passionate about it, your work and attitude will eventually show. Do something you love and have patience to know it’s not an easy road to grow a business, but it is possible!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

We are currently looking for part time assistants and eventually instructors! We are starting to be in high demand and we are looking into hiring help for our events! We are looking for art loving, fun individuals that can help make our classes fun and comfortable for the general public! You must be a people person and some type of art background is preferred!

Although schedules and locations will vary, if this sounds like something you would be interested in, please send a resume over to paintingjoint@gmail.com!
