Meet Suave Burgandy

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Suave Burgandy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Suave below.

Suave, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

At first glance, being the “only one in the room” can appear to be an overwhelming challenge, like a mountain to scale. However, if you adjust your perspective, it becomes a chance to create space and seize opportunities. Being the only one of your kind in a given situation is inherently rare, and depending on your approach, you can assume and maintain a position of power and influence. Being the sole representative of a viewpoint in a room is an invitation to shape narratives and engage at a meaningful level. When you enter these situations prepared, confident, alert, and intentional, you possess considerable strength—the kind of energy that encourages initiatives, opens doors, and inspires movements. It may feel uncomfortable when you’re the only one who relates to a specific topic or when your insights diverge from the prevailing sentiment, but these moments are essential for progress. I view it as a badge of honor and a responsibility to introduce diversity into the conversation. Having unique insights is an incredibly valuable asset in today’s world. It serves as a superpower in my professional endeavors, and I strive to leverage that knowledge whenever I can.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m what has been described to me as a one-person creative hub! I’ve written and recorded music since 16, hosted and produced numerous podcasts, captured moments as a videographer/photographer, DJ countless parties, weddings, and events, curated hundreds of playlists, edited content for every platform imaginable on a pro level, crafted marketing strategies, developed branding concepts, designed engaging graphics, styled with skill, and produced content that captures the very essence of creativity! I’ve been living the creative dream for as long as I can remember, and I’m grateful to make it my full-time job! I can be found @Suave4Mayor on any and all social media platforms. I co-host a Pro-Wrestling/Hip-Hop fusion podcast/videocast w/ @DanjahOne, we’re in our 7th season with over 241 episodes and hundreds of hours of content. My musical catalog is available on all DSPs by searching Suave Burgandy, and by the time you read this I’ll be working on something special 😏. It’s always #Suavetoberfest somewhere.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Self-Awareness, Attention to Detail, and Adaptability.
To achieve true success, you must first understand who you are. Being centered and grounded in your identity helps eliminate unnecessary discussions that can cloud your judgment.
When you pay attention to the finer details of a project, you can effectively plot, plan, and strategize multiple paths to success. It’s similar to having a GPS guiding you toward your goals. By focusing on the specifics of each step and anticipating potential challenges, you can navigate them more effectively through proactive troubleshooting.
Adaptability is one of the most crucial skills to possess. The reality of life is constant change, and your response to these changes is what will determine your success. Having a backup plan is insufficient if you’re not ready and willing to pivot to it swiftly and effectively. While we may have hoped for plan A to succeed, it’s important to consider how you can still achieve your objectives when it’s no longer an option. As the H.G. Wells quote says, “Adapt or perish, now as ever, is nature’s inexorable imperative.” Or as Bruce Lee put it, “Be Like Water”.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I like to unwind by diving into some of my favorite hobbies. Sneaker shopping & video games are a go-to for me, along with watching pro-wrestling. I also love revisiting nostalgic movies & shows that reset my mind back to simpler times. Of course making music is most often used outlet; it helps me pour my feelings into something real and meaningful.
While these activities definitely help me feel better in the moment, sometimes they’re just a quick fix for the deeper stuff I deal with. What truly keeps me grounded is my ever-evolving relationship with God. That connection gives me a sense of peace and guidance, especially when life feels chaotic. My ultimate safe space is my family. Their love and support remind me that I’m never really alone in my struggles. With them by my side, I feel stronger and more confident to face those overwhelming moments with a bit of grace.
