Meet Sudha Srinivasamoorthy

We recently connected with Sudha Srinivasamoorthy and have shared our conversation below.

Sudha, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
All my teens and 20s I was trained to become a software Engineer which I did eventually and spent Seven years in a Top IT firm. I have never dreamt of running my own business any day. Stumbling upon cake Art was a pure accident when I decided to start baking for my little girl’s birthdays and fell in love with the Craft. Being in Pastry and cake Art gave me a purpose and sense of joy which my 9-5 IT job didn’t provide. Ofcourse running your own business comes with tons of challenges but the pride of creating something from scratch and something you love is definitely worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am Sudha, Cake Artist and Founder of Sudha’s Cake Studio, a Dallas based Home based Cake Studio. We are a Registered and Certified Home based Bakery based out in the suburbs of Dallas – Mckinney, Texas. We specialize in Wedding cakes, Celebration cakes and offer a wide range of delicious Desserts for all Occasions.

A little about me – Before diving into the world of Cakes and Edible Art, I had a successful career in Software Industry for 7 years. Discovering my passion for Pastry was a pure accident where I started baking as a Hobby and realized this is my calling. And the rest is History. In 2023, I followed my dreams and finished a short course in a renowned Pastry school, Le cordon Bleu in London. It was the best decision I have ever made.

Cakes are more than just flour and sugar, it is an Art form and we thrive to stay true to it by crafting cakes which are unique and Artistic. Cakes are usually a center piece at any party. Our motto is to create something Artistic for your special occasion which not only looks beautiful but also tastes great at the same time.

Our brand was built by just passion and dreams and we are proud of what we create. There are couple of flavors which we offer brings in our culture from India and combine it with western flavors which are one of a kind and delicious. Apart from Cakes we offer other Desserts like Cupcakes, Macarons, Cakesicles, Cake Jars, Assorted Treat boxes for gifting needs and can design a whole Dessert table for your Weddings and Parties.

If you are looking for something creative, Artistic then this is your place.

We are hoping to expand by moving into a Brick and Mortar location thereby expanding our business is the dream and hoping to make that happen in the near future. Wish me luck 🙂

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities which I call it as 3Ps – Passion, Practice, Perseverance has been the most Impactful in my journey so far. Like Julia Child once said, “Find your passion and keep tremendously interested in it”. The line which keeps me going.

The Passion you have for our craft will drive and motivate us every day.
With Practice comes Perfection.
Growth is always not linear, there are ups and downs in any journey. Perseverance is what helps us to keep moving forward.

One Advice – Trust your Gut, work hard and smart and make connections with like minded individuals.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Being a Home Based Cake studio, comes with it’s fair amount 0f challenges. First and foremost being there is no boundary between Personal and Work time. Sometimes I tend to over work and get exhausted by the end of the week which affects mental health in a long run. I feel the only way is to have a separate workspace away from home so it is easier to wrap up work by the end of the day, come home and have a good balance. Hence my goal is to have a separate studio space eventually and I am working towards it.
