Meet Suhani Sanghavi

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Suhani Sanghavi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Suhani, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Imposter syndrome was something I constantly felt (and still sometimes do) when I started Sakhi. At first, I was just designing for family and friends—safe, familiar, and without the pressure of calling it a ‘business.’ But taking that next step, putting my work out there, and asking people to trust me with their most important celebrations? That was terrifying.

I questioned everything—was I talented enough? Would people take me seriously? Was this even possible? But what helped me push forward was realizing that I didn’t need to fit into what already existed. I had my own creative voice, my own perspective, and that was something worth sharing. Once I embraced that, I stopped comparing and started designing with confidence.

Seeing my work become part of someone’s wedding, their baby shower, their once-in-a-lifetime moments—that’s what made the fear worth it. Over time, I understood that imposter syndrome didn’t mean I wasn’t capable—it meant I cared deeply.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a COVID bride turned designer/storyteller after curating my own wedding signage, stationery, and keepsakes from the confines of my laptop screen. The wedding journey was a grueling but beautiful labor of love that led me to Sakhi and its mission to craft intentional and aesthetic wedding artifacts that tie in stories of love, culture, and everything in between.

My biggest desire with Sakhi is to bring the creative mosaic of South Asian heritage, prints, designs, and textiles closer to those abroad and afar. Sakhi is the Sanskrit word for friend, one that is always there for you. Whether it’s creating thoughtful wedding signs and invites or personalized keepsakes, I am hoping that Sakhi can be that friend and support system to help South Asian origin brides, their partners, and their families living abroad during their lives’ biggest moments.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Resilience – Starting a business is filled with moments of doubt, setbacks, and trial and error. The ability to keep going, even when things felt uncertain, was crucial. For those just starting, remind yourself that progress isn’t always linear. Embrace challenges as part of the process and trust that every experience—good or bad—is teaching you something valuable.

Authenticity in Creativity – The turning point for me was realizing I didn’t need to replicate what already existed. I could bring my own creative voice to the market. For anyone starting out, spend time discovering what excites you creatively, rather than chasing trends. Your unique perspective is your biggest strength.

Adaptability & Learning – There’s so much more to running a creative business than just design—understanding pricing, contracts, client communication, and production are all essential. I had to learn as I went, and I still am. My advice? Stay curious and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Whether it’s taking a course, joining a community, messaging a fellow designer, or just Googling things at 2 AM, every bit of learning adds up.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

As a small South Asian business owner, I am always looking to collaborate with other South Asian business owners, leaders, influencers, and South Asian couples to create bespoke designs for their upcoming events. Whether it’s custom stationery for a wedding, a milestone celebration, or branding for an event, I love bringing thoughtful, culturally inspired designs to life.
